The Lady Dawgs Season Ends in the District Finals

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Lady Bulldogs soccer team  had their season come to an end on Wednesday night after losing to Kearney in the A-5 District final 2-0.

The match was scoreless after the first half of play between the two rival schools. Kearney, however scored early in the second half to take control then added one more goal for good measure. It was the first time this season that the Lady Dawgs were shutout as they fall one match shy of the Class A State Tournament. Kearney advances to state with the win.

North Platte finished the season with a 13-5 record and were statistically led by a trio of seniors. Taylor Banark led the team in goals with 22 and assists with 20 to finish her senior season with a team-high 64 points. She will be playing at Hastings College next season. Madalynn Doughty was second on the team with 28 points. Doughty scored 10 goals and had eight assists. She will move on and play at the University of Nebraska-Kearney next year. Third in the points category for North Platte was Marisa Martinez with 26 points. Martinez, who will be playing at Midland University next season, had nine goals and eight assists to cap her high school career. Hannah Wilke will also be playing at the next level. She will head west to Scottsbluff to play for Western Nebraska Community College.

Lady Dawgs Advance, Boys Season Ends

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Bulldogs boys and girls soccer team both competed in the first round of districts on Monday with the Lady Dawgs earning a win and the North Platte boys taking a loss to end their season.

The North Platte Bulldogs boys soccer team was the No. 3 seed in the A-6 District hosted by Grand Island. North Platte went in with a 5-10 record against No. 2 seed Papillion-La Vista South and their 10-6 record. The Titans won the match going away with a 7-0 shutout victory. The Dawgs season came to an end with the loss at Memorial Stadium in Grand Island. Papillion-La Vista South moves on to the A-6 District Finals against No. 1 seed Grand Island on Thursday.

Brady Mason finished his senior season by leading the team with 11 goals. He also added four assists for a team-high 26 points. Senior David Garcia led the team with five assists to go along with three goals to finish with 11 points, good for second on the team. Senior Dakota Guenin finished his goalkeeping career with 101 saves on the season, compared to just 26 goals allowed.

The Lady Dawgs won their first round district game on Monday over Omaha Burke 4-1. North Platte is the No. 2 seed in the A-5 District hosted by Kearney. Burke came in as the No. 3 seed with a 5-12 record compared to the Lady Dawgs record of 11-4. North Platte will play in the district finals on Wednesday against the host school Kearney at Ted Baldwin Park in Kearney. The No. 1 seed Lady Bearcats beat No. 4 Lincoln High 10-0 in Monday’s early game. Wednesdays district final game will be played at 6:00 PM. The last time the two rivals met Kearney won 2-1 on the turf in North Platte on April 22.

The Bulldogs Lose Regular Season Finale in a Shootout

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Bulldogs boys soccer team fell at home to Scottsbluff 3-2 in a shootout Friday to end regular season play.

The match was even 1-1 at halftime and after each team scored a second half goal it went to a shootout with Scottsbluff (11-7) earning the win. Brady Mason and Rashawn Bryant each scored a goal for North Platte. Mason added an assist along with Brian Kennedy. Dakota Guenin had five saves in the net for North Platte.

North Platte finishes the regular season with a 5-10 record as they head in to the A-6 District tournament on Monday. The Dawgs play Papillion-La Vista South at 7:00 pm Monday at Memorial Stadium in Grand Island. North Platte is the No. 3 seed with Papillion-La Vista South the No. 2. The host school, GI, is the No. 1 seed and will play No. 4 Lincoln High at 5:00 pm. The winners will meet in the district finals on Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 pm in Grand Island.

NSAA Releases Soccer District Pairings, NPHS Boys and Girls go on the Road

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe Nebraska School Activities Association released the 2014 Class A district soccer pairings on Wednesday and both the North Platte High School boys and girls will go on the road for next week’s  postseason play.

The North Platte Bulldogs boys soccer team is 19th in the NSAA wildcard point standings. The Dawgs currently have a record of 5-9, which has changed due to Lexington having to forfeit all of their games this season because of an ineligible player. North Platte lost 2-1 to Lexington early in the season, without the forfeit the Dawgs would be 4-10. With the 19th place in the point standings North Platte earned a No. 3 seed in the district tournament. The Dawgs will travel to Grand Island, who is hosting the A-6 District. North Platte as the No. 3 seed will play second-seeded Papillion La Vista South (9-5) at 7:00 pm on Monday, May 5. The host school and No. 1 seeded Grand Island (9-5) will play No. 4 Lincoln High (6-9) at 5:00 pm on Monday. The winners of the first round games will advance to the district final and play for a chance to go to the Class A State Tournament on Thursday. The district final will be played at Memorial Stadium in Grand Island at 7:00 pm Thursday, May 8. The boys A-6 bracket can be seen below.

The North Platte Lady Bulldogs are 10-4 on the season and sit 10th in the NSAA wildcard point standing. The Lady Dawgs earned a No. 2 seed in the A-5 District, which will be played at Ted Baldwin Park in Kearney. North Platte will play third-seeded Omaha Burke (5-10) at 7:00 pm Monday, May 5. The host school and No. 1 seeded Kearney Lady Bearcats (13-3) will play No. 4 Lincoln High (4-10) at 5:00 pm on Monday, May 5. The district final for the girls will be played Wednesday, May 7 in Kearney at 6:00 pm with the winners of the first round playing each other. The girls A-5 bracket can be seen below.

The North Platte boys are led by senior Brady Mason with 10 goals and 23 points total this season. The Lady Dawgs have four players with over 20 points on the season, including senior Taylor Banark. Banark leads the team with 20 goals and 19 assists for a total of 59 points. Senior Madalynn Doughty also has 10 goals and eight assists for a total of 28 points.

The Bulldogs Soccer Teams Split in Norfolk

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Bulldogs boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Norfolk on Tuesday and split with the Panthers.

The Lady Dawgs (10-4) earned a 4-0 shutout win over Norfolk (7-9). Four different players scored for North Platte in the win, Carli Anderson, Morgan Hansen, Madalynn Doughty and Taylor Banark. Doughty also added an assist. The Lady Bulldogs only led 1-0 at halftime before scoring three times in the second half. Abby Stark earned the shutout win in the net.

The North Platte boys (4-10) lost a close 2-1 match to Norfolk (10-5). The Panthers held a 1-0 lead at halftime before each team notched a second-half goal to seal the win for Norfolk. Nick Wilkinson scored the Dawgs lone goal off an assists from David Garcia. Dakota Guenin led the way in the net for North Platte with five saves.

Both the boys and girls now wait to hear their district pairings which will be released on Wednesday. District play will begin Monday, May 5. Before postseason play starts both the boys and girls host Scottsbluff on Saturday to end the regular season.

North Platte Bulldogs Soccer Boys and Girls Both Split with Lincoln Schools

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte High School soccer teams traveled to Kearney on Saturday and each played a doubleheader against Lincoln East and Lincoln Northeast.

The Lady Dawgs (9-4) began the day with a 2-1 loss to the Spartans of Lincoln East (10-4). The loss meant that the North Platte girls had a losing streak for the first time this season after losing 2-1 to Kearney on Tuesday. In the loss to Lincoln East the Lady Dawgs were led by Taylor Banark with the lone goal off of an assist from Samantha Tagwerker. Abby Stark recorded 11 saves as the goalie in the loss.

The North Platte girls quickly ended their losing streak with a 2-0 shutout win over Lincoln Northeast (4-10). The Lady Bulldogs scored one goal in each half en route to the win. Banark and Kaylynn Kissenger each scored a goal in the game. Marisa Martinez had two assists and Stark only had to make three saves to get the shutout in the net.

The North Platte boys (4-9) also lost 2-1 to Lincoln East (7-6). The Spartans put up two goals in the first half before the Bulldogs got their lone goal in the second half. Brady Mason scored the goal for  North Platte, while Dakota Guenin recorded eight saves as the goalkeeper.

The Dawgs bounced back with a 4-1 win over Lincoln Northeast (1-14). The match was tied at 1 at halftime, then North Platte erupted for three goals in the second half. Mason led the way with two goals in the win and Ryan Letourneau and David Mata each scored a goal. David Garcia led the way with two assists and Will Phillips made two of the team’s three saves in the net.

The North Platte boys and girls soccer teams both return to the pitch on Tuesday as they travel to play Norfolk.

Lady Bulldogs Volleyball Skills Camp Scheduled for May

north-platteThe North Platte High School volleyball team will host its NPHS Summer Volleyball Skills Camp next month.

The camp will take place inside the Dawg House at North Platte High School, May 20-22. Volleyball skills will be taught to girls going into 3rd-9th grades. The 3rd-5th graders will report from 9:00-11:00 am with the 6th-9th graders reporting from 1:00-3:30 pm.

Camp brochures can be picked up at any of the sporting good stores in North Platte or at the North Platte High School activities office. Walk-ins are welcome, but preregistration is greatly appreciated. The cost is $30 and includes a t-shirt.

North Platte Bulldogs Soccer Splits with Kearney, Boys Win

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Bulldogs soccer teams split with Class A rival Kearney on Tuesday.

The North Platte Bulldogs (3-8) snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-2 home win over the Bearcats of Kearney (7-5). North Platte jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime then added a goal in the second half to secure the one-goal victory. Three different players scored for North Platte in the game: Brady Mason, David Garcia and Eiljah Vierya. Mason also added two assists for the Dogs. Dakota Guenin had eight saves in earning the win as the goalkeeper.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-3) lost for just the third time this season, 2-1 to Kearney (9-3).  North Platte led 1-0 at halftime before giving up two second half goals to the Lady Cats to lose for the first time in four games. Morgan Hansen scored the Lady Bulldogs lone goal and Abby Stark recorded 13 saves in the net.

Both the boys and girls for North Platte soccer will next play Saturday in Kearney. The Bulldogs will play Lincoln East and Lincoln Northeast on the neutral field.

Bulldogs Soccer Splits with Columbus

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Bulldogs soccer teams traveled to Columbus on Thursday, the girls won and boys lost.

The North Platte Lady Bulldogs (8-2) won a hard fought road battle over the Discoverers 2-0. The match was scoreless at halftime before North Platte’s Madalynn Doughty scored two goals in the second half to lead the Lady Dogs to the win. Taylor Banark assisted on both of Doughty’s goals and Abby Stark earned the shutout in the net with eight saves.

The North Platte Bulldogs (2-8) boys soccer team lost their eighth straight match with a 3-1 loss to Columbus on Thursday. Columbus led 2-0 at halftime before the Dogs and Discoverers each scored one goal in the second half. Brady Mason scored North Platte’s only goal and Nick Wilkinson assisted on the play. Dakota Guenin had eight saves as the keeper.

The North Platte Bulldogs boys and girls teams will return to the pitch on Tuesday at home against Kearney.

The North Platte Soccer Teams Split with Hastings

North Platte Bulldogs SoccerThe North Platte Bulldogs boys and girls soccer teams hosted the Hastings Tigers on Tuesday and the Lady Dogs won, while the boys lost.

The North Platte Lady Bulldogs (7-2) beat Hastings (6-5) for the second time in as many games. The Lady Dogs won 4-2 on Tuesday at Madison Middle School in North Platte, following a 5-1 win over the Lady Tigers on Saturday in the GNAC 3rd-4th place game in Scottsbluff. North Platte spread the goals around in Tuesday’s win. Four Lady Dogs scored in the game. Taylor Banark and Samantha Tagwerker each scored a goal and had an assist. Carli Anderson and Marisa Martinez each added a goal for North Platte, who led 3-1 at the half. Goalkeeper Abby Stark had 14 saves for North Platte in the match.

The North Platte boys (2-7) soccer team  continues to struggle. They lost to Hastings (9-2) 2-0. The Bulldogs boys team also played Hastings in the GNAC tournament in Scottsbluff. They faced each other in the first round, which resulted in a 2-1 Tigers win. Dakota Guenin had eight saves in the net for North Platte in Tuesday’s loss. The Dogs have now lost seven matches in a row, but five of their seven losses have been by two goals or less.

The North Platte Bulldogs soccer teams will have one day of practice before hitting the road to play Columbus on Thursday.
