AUDIO: North Platte First Nationals Prep for District Tournament

The North Platte First Nationals Senior Legion baseball team finished the regular season at 30-15 including wins in five of their final six games. Their attention now turns towards the Area 7 District tournament this weekend in Kearney. The First Nationals earned the #2 seed in the 5-team field and will battle #3 Scottsbluff in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament on Friday evening at 7:30 pm.

Friday’s game will be the 5th this year between the two teams, with North Platte having won all four previous meetings this season and six straight wins for the First Nationals over Scottsbluff going back to last season.

First Nationals swept by Grand Island to close home slate; Juniors split

np first nationalsThe North Platte First Nationals senior legion closed out their 2015 home slate with a pair of losses to Grand Island. North Platte fell 3-1 in game one and dropped game two 7-6. They dropped the final three games of an 11-game home-stand, going 7-4 during their 11-day stint at Bill Wood Field. Now 25-14 overall on the year, the First Nationals head to Lincoln for the July 4th Tournament which begins Friday afternoon at 2:30.

The Junior Legion First Nationals split their doubleheader at Grand Island on Tuesday night, winning game one 10-2 in 5 innings and falling 9-6 in the nightcap. The Juniors will play in a tournament in Hastings over the holiday weekend.

First Nationals Split Home Doubleheader with Lincoln High

np first nationalsNorth Platte Senior Legion split a home doubleheader with Lincoln High on Saturday afternoon at Bill Wood Field. North Platte (25-12) won game one 11-3 and Lincoln High was able to force the split with a 7-5 win in game two.

The First Nationals close out their home slate for 2015 on Tuesday night hosting Grand Island for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 pm.

The Junior Legion won both games of a doubleheader against Lincoln High on Friday night at home. The Junior First Nationals won game one 6-3 and picked up a 12-8 victory in game two.

The Juniors are on the road Tuesday evening to face Grand Island in a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 pm.

North Platte First Nationals swept at home by Kearney

np first nationalsAfter picking up their first win in Kearney since 2005 earlier this season, the North Platte First Nationals senior legion couldn’t complete the season sweep of Kearney, falling 4-1 at home on Tuesday night at Bill Wood Field.

Kearney (19-4) took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never would surrender the lead.  North Platte (21-11) closed the score to 2-1 before a 2-run 6th inning by Kearney closed the door.

The senior legion continues their home-stand Wednesday night hosting Scottsbluff in a senior legion double-header starting at 5:30 pm.

The Junior Legion First Nationals  (16-6) were once again upended by Kearney in a one-run loss, falling 7-6. It was the second time this season that North Platte has lost by a single run to Kearney.  The Juniors are on the road Wednesday night at Scottsbluff for a double-header beginning at 5:30 pm.

Between the games, two players were honored with the Team Leadership Award.  The Junior Legion recipient was Braiden Ruffin and the Senior Legion recipient was Alec Wesslund.

First National Seniors Defeat Hastings at Bill Wood Field

A three-run homerun from Levi Nekuda spurred a 7-run 3rd inning for the First Nationals in an 8-6 win over Hastings at Bill Wood Field.  North Platte (14-7) travels out to Canon City, Colorado this weekend.

The Junior Legion (12-5) dropped both games of a doubleheader at Hastings, falling 5-3 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

North Platte First Nationals Weekend Recap

It was a busy weekend at Bill Wood Field in North Platte where the First Nationals hosted Laramie and Lincoln Southeast. On Saturday, North Platte Senior Legion lost both of their games, falling 7-3 to Lincoln Southeast in the early game and dropping a 14-6 decision vs. Laramie in the nightcap. Sunday started with another tough game for the Nats with a 5-3 loss to Lincoln Southeast. The First Nationals were able to salvage one game from the weekend with a 17-2 victory over Laramie in the final game on Sunday evening.

The North Platte First Nationals Junior Legion team played four games in Kearney over the weekend. On Friday night the First Nationals defeated Lincoln Southwest 10-3 before falling 8-4 against Lincoln Southeast on Saturday. The juniors split their two games on Sunday with an 8-4 loss to Creighton Prep before winning 10-2 over Omaha Gross to cap off the weekend.

Both teams are in action tonight at Bill Wood Field hosting Lexington in a make-up of a rain-out from earlier this season.

North Platte First Nationals Defeat Kearney 15-8

The First Nationals Senior Legion (11-4) picked up a 15-8 road win over Kearney on Tuesday night. North Platte had not won in Kearney since 2005.

The Junior Legion (9-1) suffered their first setback of the season in a 9-8 loss at Kearney.

North Platte First Nationals Claim Seward Tournament Championship

The North Platte First Nationals Senior Legion baseball team went 3-0 on the weekend at the Seward Tournament to claim the tournament championship. North Platte defeated the host team Seward in the title game on Sunday evening, 10-7. The First Nationals are now 10-4 on the season. This week they’re scheduled to play at Kearney on Tuesday night at 8pm; Wednesday night vs. Lexington at 8pm at Bill Wood Field; and this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at home against Lincoln SE and Laramie.

North Platte First Nationals Junior Legion continued their perfect start to the season with a doubleheader sweep of Columbus at Bill Wood Field on Saturday. North Platte won game one 7-3 and won the second game of the doubleheader 7-2 to improve to 9-0 on the season. They’ll also play Tuesday at Kearney and Wednesday vs. Lexington at home. This weekend they’ll play in Kearney on Friday-Sunday.

Kade Folchert Night Rescheduled at Bill Wood Field

The North Platte First Nationals have rescheduled their Kade Folchert night events to Thursday, May 21 at Bill Wood Field in North Platte. There will be a 9-inning joint Junior-Senior squad game vs. Ogallala at 7 pm followed by the regularly scheduled raffle event. All proceeds will go to the Folchert family.
