NPCC Knights Defeat Lamar in Sub-Region Contest

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Lamar, Colorado and defeated the Lamar Community College Lopers 86-81 in a Region IX Sub-Regional contest.

The Knights improved to 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in the south sub-region.

The Knights held a 44-35 half time lead.

Knights assistant coach Ryan Glenney said, “We played really good at the beginning , had a couple of double digit leads, but kept letting them back in.” Glenney added, “We found a way to finish it in the last minute while they made a run.

Lamar cut the lead to one, 82-81 on a three pointer by Bayek Tutlam.  On the next possession the Knights Cameron Williams made a layup to put the Knights up by three.

One of the key plays was a turnover by Chris Lewis, which allowed  CJ Polk to clinch the victory.

The Knights were led in scoring by Cameron Williams with 32 points to lead all scorers, Shyquinn Dix with 17 points, CJ Polk with 16 points and Marco Pascolo added 12 points.

Tyree Peter led the Knights in rebounding with 11 rebounds.

Lamar had three players in double-figures led by Symon Smith with 16 points.  Shane Fox followed with 12 points, and Chris Lewis added 11.

The Knights return to action at home on Tuesday, December 9 when they face Northeastern Junior College in a key Region IX  sub-region game.  Tip-off is at 7:30.

NPCC Lady Knights are Defeated by Northeast

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team was defeated by the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks, 80-62.

The Lady Knights were leading at halftime 33-29, but were outscored 51-29 in the second half.

The Lady Knights fall to 6-5 on the year , while the Lady Hawks improve to 11-3.

Lady Knight Head Coach Richard Thurin said “Played well 1st half leading by 4 at half time got in foul trouble 2nd half and they got some easy buckets on us.”

The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Ester Micheva with 16 points.  She was followed by Aliyah Brown with 15 and April Stull with 11 points.  Stull also had 13 rebounds for her 5th double-double of the year.

The Lady Hawks were balanced in their scoring with six players scoring in double figures.  Megan Trinder led the way with 14, Taylor Mayes –Jackson with 13, Ena Viso with 12 points, Brooke Bauer, Sydney Koel, and Janea Bunn each had 10 points.  Bunn also had 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

The Lady Knights return to action at home on Tuesday, December 9 when they face Northeastern Junior College.  Tip-off is at 5:30.

NPCC Lady Knights Defeat Midland University JV

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights defeated the Midland University Junior Varsity Lady Warriors 65-47 Fridaynight  to improve to 6-4 on the season  and 3-0 on the road.

Lady Knight Assistant Coach Nolan Collins said. “We played really well in the first half tonight.”   North Platte  had a 42-29 lead at halftime.

Lady Knight Aliyah Brown scored a career high 21 points to lead all scorers.  She was followed in scoring by April Stull with 16 points.  Stull collected her fourth double-double by grabbing 13 rebounds.

Midland was led in scoring by Miranda Paul and Mandi Uecker, who each scored 16 points

The Lady Knights continue their road trip on Saturday as the travel to Norfolk to play Northeast Community College with a 2:00 pm tip-off.

Northeast enters the game with an 11-2 record. . Collins added “We have to play with the same effort and intensity on offense and defense for all 40 minutes against Northeast.”

The Lady Knights return home on Tuesday, December 9 to face Northeastern Junior College with a 5:30 start.

NPCC Knights Travel to Lamar for Sub-Region Game

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Knights will travel to Lamar, Colorado and face the Lamar Community College Lopers on Saturday, December 6 at 8:30 p.m. CST.

The Knights are 7-2 on the season, including 1-1 in Region 9 South Sub-Region play.  Lamar is 2-11 on the year, including 0-1 in Region 9 South Sub-Region play.

The Knights are led in scoring by sophomore Cameron Williams, from Omaha, with 18.0 points per game, followed by sophomore Marco Pascolo, who averages 12.4 points per game, and freshman Shyquinn Dix, who averages 10.9 points per game.

The Knights as a team average 82 points per game and allow 71.4 points per game.

The Lopers average 74.5 points per game and allow 72.4 points per game.  They are led in scoring by Tiwian Kendley, who is averaging 15.5 points per game, and Chris Lewis, who is averaging 10.2 points per game.  Lewis leads the Lopers with 8.2 rebounds per game.

NPCC Lady Knights Basketball to Face Midland and Northeast on Road

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights take to the road this weekend to Fremont to face the Midland University Junior Varsity Lady Warriors on Friday, December 5 and then travel to Norfolk on Saturday, December 6 to face the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks.

The Lady Knights are 5-4 on the year and 2-0 on the road.

The Lady Knights are led in scoring by sophomore April Stull, who is averaging 18.2 points per game, which is 36th in the nation and 1st in Region 9.  Stull also leads the region in rebounding, pulling down 8.3 rebounds per game.

The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Warriors at home during the Hampton Inn Classic 57-35.  Lady Knight Assistant Coach Nolan Collins said “They (Midland) are a vastly improved team.  They defeated Central Community College at Columbus by one point (84-83).”  Collins added “against Central, Midland made 13 three point shots. We will have to play well this weekend.”

Northeast comes into the game sporting an 11-2 record.  The Lady Hawks are led in scoring by Janea Bunn, who is averaging 12.5 points per game and Megan Trinder who is averaging 11.8 points per game.

Tip-off for the game against Midland is at 7:30 p.m. and the Northeast game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

NPCC Lady Knights Defeat Colby CC

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights defeated the Colby Community College Lady Trojans 65-62 on Tuesday night in Colby, Kansas.  The win evened the season series at 1- 1, avenging a 58-54 loss on November 15 at North Platte.

The Lady Knights trailed at half time 39-30 but outscored Colby 35-23 in the second half to secure the victory.

“We tightened up our defense the second half and our press bothered them which enabled us to score easy baskets.” Lady Knight head coach Richard Thurin said.

Another key, according to Thurin was having five players in double figures.  The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Sarah Mahr from Sidney with 13 points, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the free throw line.  The other four Lady Knights to score in double figures were: Aliyah Brown with 11; April Stull with 11; Djimonii Jackson with 11; and Ester Micheva with 10.   Stull also contributed with 9 rebounds.

Overall the Lady Knights out-rebounded the Lady Trojans 51-46.

The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Amanda Miller with 17 points.  Audra Nowak followed with 14 points and Laura Dennis finished with 10.

The Lady Knights improve to 5-4 for the year, while the Colby falls to 7-4.

The Lady Knights travel this weekend to face Midland University Junior Varsity in Fremont on Friday, December 5 and Northeast Community College in Norfolk on Saturday, December 6.

Tip-off for the Midland game is at 7:30 p. m. and the Northeast game will be at 2:00 p.m.

NPCC Seeking Former Volleyball Players

North Platte Community College is encouraging all former players and assistant coaches to come to an evening of celebration for Coach Sally Thalken, who retired from coaching the North Platte Community College women’s volleyball team after 34 years on the sideline.

The schedule of events for the Sally Thalken Recognition Night at McDonald – Belton Gymnasium on December 9 are as follows:

5:30 p.m. NPCC Women’s Basketball game vs Northeastern Jr. College

6-8 p.m. Former team members private reception upstairs in the VIP room

7:30 p.m. NPCC Men’s Basketball game vs. Northeastern Jr. College

NPCC Lady Knights Travel to Colby

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights will travel to Colby, Kansas Tuesday, December 2 to play the Colby Community College Lady Trojans.

The Lady Knights were defeated by the Lady Trojans 58-54 on November 15 at North Platte.  In that game, the Lady Knights were led in scoring by sophomore Aliyah Brown, who scored 11 points.

North Platte is currently 4-4 on the year, while the Lady Trojans are 7-3.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM CST.  The game may be heard on ESPN Radio 1410 or online at www.northplattepost.com.

NPCC Knights Defeat Doane College JV

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Knights men’s basketball team defeated the Doane College Junior Varsity Tigers 70-68 on Sunday afternoon at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium, to improve to 7-2 on the year and 4-1 at home.

Doane jumped out to an 11-6 lead during the first five minutes of the game.  The Knights went on an 8-2 run and took the lead 14-13 on a field goal by Cameron Williams with 10:25 to play.  During the rest of the first half there were 8 lead changes.  Doane led at halftime 35-31.

In the second half the Knights came out shooting.  Williams hit a pair of 3-point shots and one each by CJ Polk, Matt Thomas, Marco Pascolo, and Riley Rice to take the lead 60- 53 with 10 minutes to go in the game.

The Tigers slowly clawed back and tied the game 68-68 with 17 seconds left in the game.

With 4.4 seconds left Polk drove the lane and was fouled by Doane’s Rylee Zimmerman and was sent to the free throw line. Polk made both free throws to give the Knights the final margin of victory 70-68.

Doane attempted a last second shot that fell short.

The Knights were led in scoring by Williams with 17 points, followed by Pascolo with 14. He also grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Knights.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Andre Collins with 27 points, Zimmerman with 13, and David McDonald with 10 points.

The Knights travel to Lamar, Colorado on Saturday, December 6 to face the Lamar Community College Lopers in a Region IX contest.  ​

NPCC Knights to host Doane College JV

npcc-knightsThe North Platte Community College Knights men’s basketball team will host the Doane College Junior Varsity Tigers on Sunday, November 30 at McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.

The Knights defeated the Tigers 91-80 at the McCook Community College Fall Classic on November 1.

The Knights are 6-2 on the season.  They are led in scoring by Cameron Williams, who is averaging 17.9 points per game.  Other Knights scoring in double figures are Marco Pascolo, 12.3 ppg, and Tyree Peter, 10.4 ppg.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM CST.
