NPCC Lady Knights Split Final Two Regular Season Matches

NPCC-Knights-LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights (19-16) volleyball team split the final two games of the regular season. The Lady Knights now travel to Columbus next Friday for the Region IX Division II Tournament. This week, North Platte first traveled to McCook Community College (11-23) for their last regular road game of the season. The Lady Indians knocked off the Lady Knights in straight sets 21-25, 21-25, 21-25. The Lady Knights then concluded their season with Sophomore Night by knocking off Eastern Wyoming for the fourth time this season in four sets 25-14, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15.

Playing in their final home game as a Lady Knight, sophomores honored included Erica Goodwin, Abigail Kurtzer, Samantha Kennedy, Joli Hopping, Taylor King, Samantha Byrn and Kylie Wroot.

Against McCook, the Lady Knights were led by Valerie Most who finished with 13 kills. Samantha Kennedy and Samantha Byrn each chipped in with seven. Joli Hopping recorded 25 assists while Erica Goodwin had 22 digs. Kennedy was also in double-figures with 10 digs. McCook was led by Destanie Micklich who finished with nine kills.

On Sophomore Night, North Platte was led by Samantha Byrn who finished with 21 kills and four blocks. Valerie Most chipped in 13 kills while Samantha Kennedy finished with 10 kills, four blocks and 22 digs. Joli Hopping again led the Lady Knights ,in assists finishing with 44 and also recording 12 digs. Erica Goodwin had 26 digs while Aryn Mesinger chipped in 10.

The Lady Knights concluded their regular season with a 19-16 record. North Platte travels to Columbus for the Region IX Division II Tournament on Friday October 31 and Saturday November 1. The winner will then host the District G Playoff for the chance to compete at the National Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.

NPCC Lady Knights Split Road Swing

NPCC-Knights-LogoColumbus – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights (18-15) took to the road on Tuesday and Wednesday for a road swing against a pair of fellow Nebraska Community College foes. The first opponent for the Lady Knights was the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks (14-13) in Norfolk. North Platte went into the Lady Hawk’s gym and defeated them in four sets 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 25-16. In the second game of the road swing, North Platte faced the newly ranked No. 2 team in the nation, the Central Community College Lady Raiders (27-5) in Columbus. Central knocked off the Lady Knights in straight sets for the second time this season 19-25, 23-25, 20-25.

Against Northeast, the Lady Knights were led Samantha Kennedy who finished with 17 kills and three blocks. Samantha Byrn and Valerie Most were also both in double-figures with 14 and 10 kills respectively. Joli Hopping recorded all but two of the assists for North Platte, finishing with 48. Erica Goodwin led the way in digs with 33 while Kennedy (19), Kylie Wroot (15), Aryn Mesinger (14) and Hopping (12) also recorded double-figures.

In the second game against Central, Samantha Kennedy again led the way with 13 kills. Samantha Byrn finished with eight. Kennedy and Samantha Morgan led the way at the net each finishing with two blocks. Joli Hopping recorded 27 assists for North Platte.

The Lady Knights have two games remaining before they return to Columbus for the Region IX Division II tournament at the end of October. North Platte first travels to rival and fellow member of the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference McCook Community College Lady Indians (9-22) on Tuesday, October 21 at 7 p.m. The Lady Knights then return home on Thursday, October 23 for a match against Eastern Wyoming College at 7 p.m. for the home and season finale, along with Sophomore Night.

NPCC Lady Knights Go 2-2 at Jimmy John Invite

NPCC-Knights-LogoColumbus – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights (17-13) volleyball team traveled to Columbus on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Jimmy John Invite. The Lady Knights played four games in two days and earned a split in the win-loss column. In the opening game, the Lady Knights took No. 5 Cowley County Community College (19-10) to the brink before falling in five sets 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 6-15. The Lady Knights bounced right back with a three set victory over Bismarck State College (16-11) in the night cap 25-17, 25-20, 25-17. North Platte returned to action Saturday morning as they notched their second straight victory with a win over Williston State College (19-12) with another straight set victory 25-23, 25-15, 25-14. In the final game of the Invite, the Lady Knights fell to No. 7 Kansas City Kansas Community College (22-7) in four sets 20-25, 24-26, 26-24, 14-25.

Against Cowley, the Lady Knights were led by Samantha Byrn who finished with 12 kills. Samantha Kennedy and Samantha Morgan each finished with eight kills in the match to go along with four blocks for each. Joli Hopping recorded 36 assists on 153 attempts while Erica Goodwin finished with 42 digs. Kennedy (23), Kylie Wroot (22), Aryn Meisinger (12) and Hopping (10) were all in double-figure digs.

In the second game of the day against Bismarck, Samantha Kennedy led the Lady Knights attack with 14 kills. Joli Hopping recorded 33 assists on 76 attempts and Aryn Meisinger led North Platte with 17 digs. Kennedy (15), Erica Goodwin (11) and Hopping (10) also finished in double-digit digs.

On Saturday against Williston, Samantha Kennedy again led the Lady Knights and was the only player in double-digits finishing with 11 kills. Joli Hopping had 35 assists on 79 attempts. Kennedy and Aryn Meisinger led the way with 15 digs in the match.

In the final game of the Invite against Kansas City Kansas Samantha Kennedy recorded 16 kills while Valerie Most had 14. Joli Hopping notched 43 assists on 135 attempts. Erika Goodwin and Kylie Wroot each had 25 digs for the Lady Knights.

The Lady Knights remain on the road for three more games before returning home on Thursday, October 23 to face Eastern Wyoming College in their regular season finale and Sophomore Night.

NPCC Lady Knights Defeat Southeast at Home

NPCC-Knights-LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights (15-12) defeated the Southeast Community College Lady Storm in four sets on Wednesday night during their annual “Pink Out” Game to raise awareness about breast cancer and to educate young women about the disease. The Lady Knights won the first set 25-16 behind eight kills from Samantha Kennedy. The Lady Storm responded by taking the second set 18-25. North Platte then closed out the match with victories in the third and fourth set 25-19 and 25-18 with Valerie Most recording six kills in the third.

The Lady Knights were led by Kennedy who finished with 19 kills and six blocks in the match.Valerie Most was second on the team with 14 kills and four blocks. Joli Hopping recorded 44 assists and Erica Goodwin had 18 digs. Kylie Wroot (14), Aryn Mesinger (11) and Hopping (11) were also in double-figure digs.,

North Platte returns to action this weekend as they travel to Columbus for the Jimmy John Invite. On Friday, October 10 the Lady Knights face Cowley County Community College at 3 p.m. and Bismarck State College at 5 p.m. North Platte then returns to the court on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. where they face Williston State College. The Lady Knights finish up the Invite at 1 p.m. against Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Lady Knights stay on the road for three more games before returning home on Thursday, October 23 to face Eastern Wyoming College in their regular season finale and Sophomore Night.

NPCC Lady Knights Drop Two Matches

NPCC-Knights-LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights (14-12) volleyball team dropped two matches this week. The Lady Knights first traveled to Sterling, Colo. where they faced the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen for the third time this season. After splitting the first two games, the first set was an epic battle with the Plainswomen earning the hard fought 33-35 set victory. Northeastern won the next two sets to take the match 16-25 and 25-27. North Platte then returned home to host Northeast Community College for the second time this season with North Platte winning the first meeting in five sets. This time Northeast emerged victorious with a three set win 19-25, 21-25, 22-25.

Against Northeastern Junior College, Valerie Most and Samantha Byrn led the way for the Lady Knights. Most finished with 16 kills while Byrn had 13. Samantha Kennedy was held to only six kills. Joli Hopping recorded 40 assists while Erica Goodwin had 22 digs. Kennedy also had 12 digs and Byrn had 11. Anais Vargas and Yuting Qi led the Plainswomen with 12 and 11 kills respectively.

In the second game of the week against Northeast, Kennedy led the way with 12 kills while Most was right behind with 10. Joli Hopping recorded 32 assists and 11 digs. Erica Goodwin had 20 digs, Abigail Kurtzer had 19 and Kennedy had 16.

The Lady Knights return to action on Wednesday, October 8 at 6 p.m. as they face Southeast Community College who defeated North Platte in five sets earlier this year. The Lady Knights then take to the road for the Jimmy John Invite in Columbus on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 where they will face Cowley County Community College, Bismarck State College, Williston State College and Kansas City Kansas Community College.

No. 16 NPCC Lady Knights go 0-4 at Johnson County Invite

NPCC-Knights-LogoOverland Park, KS – The No. 16 North Platte Community College Lady Knights (14-10) played in the Johnson County Invite Friday and Saturday in Overland Park, Kan. The Lady Knights faced stiff competition as three of the four teams they faced are ranked in the Top 11 in Division II and the fourth is receiving votes. On Friday, the Lady Knights first faced host No. 4 Johnson County Community College who defeated them in three sets 16-26, 23-25, 16-25. Next up was No. 10 Cowley County Community College who also swept the Lady Knights 16-25, 16-25, 14-25. North Platte returned to action on Saturday where they won the first set against No. 7 Kirkwood Community College before dropping the next three 25-23, 18-25, 16-25, 16-25. The Lady Knights finished up the Invite falling to Coffeyville Community College in straight sets 21-25, 17-25, 13-25.

Against Johnson County the Lady Knights were led by Samantha Kennedy with 11 kills ,and 14 digs and Joli Hopping who had all 25 assists. Valerie Most was second in kills with eight while Erica Goodwin and Aryn Mesigner each recorded 10 digs for North Platte.,

In the second match of the Invite against Cowley County, North Platte was again paced by Kennedy and Hopping. Kennedy finished the match with 13 kills to go along with 11 digs. Hopping again had 25 assists. Erica Goodwin led the way in digs with 12.

On Saturday against Kirkwood, three players finished in double-digit kills. Valerie Most led the way with 16 kills followed by Kennedy with 14 and Samantha Byrn with 10. Joli Hopping recorded 42 assists and Erica Goodwin finished with 26 digs.

In the final match of the Invite against Coffeyville, Kennedy again led the way for North Platte with 12 kills. Hopping had all 20 assists for the Lady Knights and Erica Goodwin had 13 digs.,

The Lady Knights remain on the road as they travel to Sterling, Colo. to face Northeastern Junior College on Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m. North Platte returns home on Friday, October 3 to face Northeast Community College at 5 p.m.

No. 16 NPCC Lady Knights Drop Five Set Match to Southeast

NPCC-Knights-LogoBeatrice – The No. 16 North Platte Community College Lady Knights (14-6) went on the road Thursday afternoon to face Region IX Division II foe Southeast Community College (15-7). The Lady Knights came up short in a hard fought five set battle with the Lady Storm 26-24, 25-23, 11-25, 28-30, 9-15. After winning the first two sets, Southeast stormed back to win the next two and even the match. In the deciding fifth set, the Lady Knights raced out to an early 9-6 lead. The Lady Storm scored the next 9 points to claim the set and the match.

North Platte was led in the match by Samantha Kennedy who finished with 20 kills and three blocks. Kylie Wroot recorded seven kills while Samantha Byrn and Valerie Most each had five. No other Lady Knight recorded more than one kill. Joli Hopping notched all but one assist for the Lady Knights, finishing with 36. Erika Goodwin had 35 digs while Aryn Meisinger had 16 , Hopping had 15 and Byrn recorded 12.

The Lady Knights return to action over the weekend as they travel to Overland Park, Kan. to play in the Johnson County Invite where they will face No. 4 Johnson County Community College on Friday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m. and No. 10 Cowley County Community College at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 27, the Knights finish up the Invite by facing No. 7 Kirkwood Community College at 9:00 a.m. and Coffeyville Community College at 11:00 a.m.

No. 14 NPCC Lady Knights Sweep Concordia University JV

NPCC-Knights-LogoNorth Platte – The No. 14 North Platte Community College Lady Knights (14-5) returned to action Tuesday night with a three set sweep of the Concordia University JV 25-19, 25-22, 25-22. The Lady Knights cruised to the victory behind strong performances from the usual suspects of Samantha Kennedy, Joli Hopping and Erica Goodwin.

Kennedy paced the Lady Knights with 13 kills to go along with 10 digs. Hopping was the only Lady Knight in double-figures for assists finishing with 31 while Goodwin recorded 17 digs. Valerie Most and Samantha Byrn each recorded 10 kills while Aryn Mesinger also had 15 digs.

The Lady Knights retutn to action on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. as they travel to Beatrice to take on Region IX Division II foe Southeast Community College. Over the weekend North Platte then travels to Overland Park, Kan. to play in the Johnson County Invite where they will face No. 4 Johnson County Community College on Friday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m. and No. 11 Cowley County Community College at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 27, the Knights finish up the Invite by facing No. 7 Kirkwood Community College at 9:00 a.m. and Coffeyville Community College at 11:00 a.m.

No. 14 NPCC Lady Knights Fall to No. 3 Central

NPCC-Knights-LogoNorth Platte – The No. 14 North Platte Community College Lady Knights (13-5) volleyball team hosted the No. 3 Central Community College Lady Raiders (14-2) in a Region IX Division II showdown at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium Thursday night. The Lady Raiders eventually proved to be too much for the Lady Knights as Central took the match in three sets 14-25, 12-25, 21-25.

The Lady Raiders ended the Lady Knights season a year ago in the Region IX Division II Tournament and will host this year’s tournament. The two teams will face off again on October 15 in Columbus while the Region IX Division II Tournament starts October 31.

North Platte was led on the night in kills by sophomore Samantha Kennedy with seven while freshman Valerie Most recorded three. On the evening, sophomore Joli Hopping was the only Lady Knight recorded any assists with 18. Sophomore Samantha Byrn had 11 digs for the Lady Knights while sophomore Erika Goodwin, freshman Aryn Meisinger and Hopping all had nine.

The Lady Knights return to action on Tuesday, September 23 as they host the Concordia University JV in McDonald-Belton Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The Lady Knights then take to the road for another Region IX Division II game as they travel to Beatrice to face Southeast Community College on Thursday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.

No. 16 NPCC Lady Knights Defeat EWC, Prepare for No. 3 Central

NPCC-Knights-LogoTorrington, WY – The No. 16 North Platte Community College Lady Knights traveled to Torrington, Wyo. and took care of business Tuesday night as they defeated Eastern Wyoming College for the third time this season to improve to 13-4 on the season.

The Lady Knights won in straight sets 25-22, 25-2, 25-18 behind 11 kills from sophomore Samantha Kennedy. No other Lady Knight had more than three kills other than sophomore Samantha Byrn who finished with five.

Other leaders on the night for North Platte were sophomore Joli Hopping with 23 assists and two ace serves and sophomore Taylor King who recorded 13 digs. Erika Goodwin and Kylie Wroot were also in double-figure digs with 11 and 10 respectively.

The Lady Knights return to action on Thursday, September 18 at 6 p.m. as they take on the No. 3 team in the nation, the Central Community College Lady Raiders. The Lady Raiders ended the Lady Knights season a year ago in the Region IX Division II Tournament.,
