Rockies Trade Paulino, DFA Lopez

After their record dropped below .500 for the first time all season last night, the Colorado Rockies made a pair of transactions to part company with two players who had contributed to their recent struggles. Relief pitcher Felipe Paulino, who had a record of 0-4 out of the bullpen this season and was designated for assignment last week, was traded to the Kansas City Royals. The Rockies will receive cash considerations in return. The Rockies also designated infielder Jose Lopez for assignment. Lopez was acquired from Seattle in a trade this winter. He batted just .208 with two home runs and eight RBI. The Rockies still owe Lopez the rest of his $3.6 million salary for this season. With Lopez off the 25-man roster, the Rockies are expected to promote utilityman Eric Young Jr. from AAA Colorado Springs. Young is batting .363 with the Sky Sox this season.
