Rockies Lose Despite 14 Hits

The Colorado Rockies just can’t wait for May to be over. They lost their 20th game in 28 tries in the month with a 7-1 defeat in Los Angeles against the Dodgers last night. The Rockies out-hit the Dodgers in the game, pounding out 14 hits, but grounded into three double plays and had just one hit with runners in scoring position all night. Ty Wigginton provided the lone Rockies run with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Jason Hammel failed to make it out of the fifth inning, allowing all seven runs in taking his fifth loss of the season. The Rockies slip further back in the NL West race, now four and a half games behind first place Arizona. The Rockies and Dodgers play game two of their three game series tonight. Clayton Mortensen takes the mound for the Rockies, opposing Los Angeles’ veteran left-hander Ted Lilly. First pitch is at 9:10.
