OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 49-year-old Omaha man has been given 100 years in prison for killing his girlfriend before trying to kill himself.
Mitchel Hadan on Tuesday was given 80 years for second-degree murder and 20 years on a weapons charge, to be served consecutively. Hadan had pleaded guilty after prosecutors lowered the murder charge and dropped a drug charge and another weapons charge.
Prosecutors say Hadan shot 35-year-old Rita Eckhout after police pulled over his vehicle on Jan. 1, 2011, and then he shot himself. Police say Hadan was high on methamphetamine.
