Copper theft lands Colorado man behind bars

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — A Colorado man convicted of burglary for stealing copper wire from the Nebraska Public Power District has been sentenced to one to three years in prison.

Local media says that 27-year-old Brandon Vlcek, of Fort Collins, Colo., was found guilty of burglary and possession of burglary tools in October.

After being alerted by N.P.P.D., law enforcement officers followed and arrested Vlcek in the early morning hours of June 19, 2011. N.P.P.D. says a pile of copper wire spools had been stolen from a power station north of Scottsbluff.
