The Huskers put up a valiant fight against once of the SEC’s best, but Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was too much for Nebraska’s beleaguered secondary. Murray gashed the Blackshirts for 427 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs topped the Big Red 45-31 in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando. After a wildly entertaining first-half that saw the lead change hands three times, Nebraska appeared to have the momentum after a two-yard rushing touchdown by Rex Burkhead that gave them a 31-23 lead early in the third quarter. But Georgia would score the next 22 points unanswered, the capper coming on an 87-yard screen pass from Murray to Chris Conley. Burkhead’s final game as a Husker was a big one, as he rushed for 138 yards, caught four passes for 39 yards, and scored twice. The Huskers finish the 2012 season with a 10-4 record. It’s the fifth year in five under Bo Pelini that they’ve ended the year with four tallies in the loss column.
