A demolition worker has suffered serious injuries after falling down an elevator shaft in Omaha.

Authorities say the 20-year-old man was working late Thursday morning on the main floor of a building on the west side of the Old Market District. He stepped back and plunged more than a dozen feet down the shaft.

He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center.

His name hasn’t been released. The accident is being investigated.
