Scottsbluff Police Investigate Train Collision with Car

bnsf(AP) — Authorities in western Nebraska say they’re investigating a weekend collision involving a train and an unoccupied car.

Police say a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train collided early Saturday with a 1989 Mercury Cougar that was at a crossing in Scottsbluff. There are no reports of injuries.

Scottsbluff Police Capt. Brian Wasson says the train engineer saw people near the car prior to the collision. No one was at the scene when police arrived.

Authorities have contacted the owner of the vehicle, who says his car was stolen. Wasson says the man did not contact Scottsbluff authorities prior to the train collision.
