Huskers Suffer 3-1 Loss at Penn State

huskersoccerUniversity Park, Pa. – The Nebraska soccer team fell to No. 7 Penn State, 3-1, on Friday night at Jeffrey Field.

Senior Mayme Conroy scored the Huskers’ lone goal on the evening in the 41st minute. The score marked her eighth of the season. For the game, Conroy took three shots in 86 minutes of action.

Caroline Flynn also took three shots, while Samantha Areman, Caroline Gray and Sydney Miramontez also contributed to the offense by each taking one shot. On the defensive side, goalkeeper Kelly Schatz earned two saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Nittany Lions struck first in the fourth minute when Mallory Weber scored off an assist from Emily Hurd. Penn State made the score 2-0 shortly before Conroy’s goal when Frannie Crouse knocked it in from a Whitney Church corner kick in the 40th minute.

The majority of the second half remained scoreless until Penn State’s Haleigh Echard scored in the 90th minute off a Hurd assist.

NU falls to 7-8-2 on the season, with a 3-6-2 mark in the Big Ten. The Huskers finish up their final regular-season road trip on Sunday at Ohio State at noon (CT). Nebraska’s final home game is on Friday, Oct. 31 against Iowa at the Nebraska Soccer Field at 3:30 p.m.
