The Huskers are coming off a thrilling come-from-behind road win at Michigan State late Thursday night. 2014 a Year Full of Inmates and Improvements at Lincoln County Detention Center

lincoln_countyjailThe Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has released their 2014 “Detention Center Year-in-Review.”

According to the report, the Lincoln County Detention Center (LCDC) booked 1,820 people during the year, and had a daily population of 111, consisting of 87 males and 24 females.

Staff served 93,270 meals to inmates, and say inmates and their families conducted 6,133 visits through video visitation.

With the new facility, authorities say they have been able to implement several new programs to assist inmates and the community.

The LCDC has partnered with Lutheran Family Services to offer an Intensive Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Treatment program for inmates.  64 inmates participated in the program, and logged over 450 hours of session time.  The report says, in the past, inmates needing this type of service were sent to other areas of the state, at the expense of the County.

The Inmate Worker Program was also successful in 2014, according to the report.  The inmate workers are responsible for meal preparation and delivery, laundry, interior cleaning and exterior groundwork.  In addition to their duties at the LCDC, inmates also worked six days per week cleaning the North Platte Animal Shelter and gave numerous hours to Keep North Platte/Lincoln County Beautiful and the Village of Hershey.

The report says inmates have more than doubled the hours of work generated and have provided over 3,200 hours of community service.

Improvements made to the facility during 2014 included the installation of an internet visitation system, which allows attorneys to visit with inmates from their office, without the inmate leaving their cell.

Officials say they will continue to look for efficient cost-saving measures in the future, and look forward to serving the citizens of Lincoln County in 2015.

CFP Director Says No Talks of More Than 4 Playoff Teams

College Football Playoff NCAADALLAS (AP) — College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock says his group isn’t even considering more than four teams in the playoff.

Hancock said Friday there are plenty of reasons why a four-team model was picked, and nothing has changed that after the first of a 12-year contract.

Larger brackets were toyed with when the playoff concept was first being put together.

Hancock says with the four-team bracket, there was no erosion of the regular season and that the experience and tradition of the bowl games was maintained. He says it worked out “really, really well” and that his group couldn’t be happier.

Some things preventing an expansion: more travel for teams and fans and where extra games would be played.

Cops: Teen Charged in Teacher Killing Had Bloody Box Cutter

crimeSALEM, Mass. (AP) — Two police officers say a Massachusetts teen charged with raping and killing his high school math teacher had a bloody box cutter and women’s underwear in his backpack when they detained him.

Topsfield Officers Neal Hovey and Joseph DeBernardo said in court Friday that they found Philip Chism, now 15, on a poorly lit stretch of a roadway carrying Colleen Ritzer’s ID and credit cards.

After bringing Chism back to the police station, Hovey said they found the box cutter and panties in his backpack.

The officers were testifying at a hearing where a judge is considering a request by Chism’s lawyers to have his police confession suppressed.

Chism has been charged as an adult with murder and aggravated rape in the October 2013 slaying of Ritzer, a popular 24-year-old teacher at Danvers High School. He has pleaded not guilty.
