Ruth LaVerne Oman, 92 years, of North Platte, NE, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Linden Court in North Platte.

LaVerne was born August 24, 1922, to Conrad and Nellie Mae Osborne Reinmiller at Staplehurst, NE where she grew up. She graduated from Seward High School in 1940 then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On October 4, 1942, LaVerne married Franklin Elmer Oman at Staplehurst and they were blessed with over 72 years of marriage and four children, Terry, Dean and twin daughters, Darice and Debra. They lived in Lincoln, NE then farmed south of Brady, NE before moving to Gothenburg, NE. In 1990 they moved to North Platte.

LaVerne was a member and past elder of the First Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Presbyterian Women. She was very active in many organizations including Eastern Star where she was all 5 points of the star, P.E.O. and the American Legion Auxiliary where she was District President. She was also State Americanism Chairman and a National Page at the Legion Auxiliary National Convention when she was chosen to escort Art Linkletter.

LaVerne enjoyed china painting, playing bridge and served many dinners and was known for her cinnamon rolls. LaVerne and Franklin loved to dance and taught ballroom lessons for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Franklin, of North Platte; her children, Dean (Linda) Oman and Darice (Raymond) Sundstrom, of North Platte, and Debra (Stephen) Olson, of Minden, NE; daughter-in-law, Virginia Oman, of Kearney, NE; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Oman, Melissa (Larry) Stacy, Erin Berryman, Dustin Oman, Hayley (Eric) Ryan, Tracy Sundstrom, Scott (Amie) Sundstrom, Teri Jo (Aaron) Schledwitz, Stephanie (Brock) Emery and Amber (Nick) Napier; 23 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandson; and other family.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her son, Terry Oman; her parents, Conrad and Nellie Reinmiller; and seven siblings, George, Elton, Woodrow and Weldon Reinmiller, Geneva Fenemore, Marjorie Reinmiller and Donna Jean Johnson.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Polly Deppen-Williams officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Gothenburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or Paws-itive Partners. Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
