Ronald Dean Weigel,Sr., age 60, of North Platte finished his earthly journey on April 6, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on October 24, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas. His parents were Otto Dean and Lillian (Blevins) Weigel. The family moved to North Platte in 1965. Ronnie joined the Navy in 1970 and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1974 and returned to North Platte. He worked for Hiatt Construction, at the Sutherland Power Plant, and for Brink Dodge car lot. Ronnie married LouAnn Thomas on July 23, 1982. They moved to Stapleton to farm and ranch in 1986. Ronnie also worked for Milldale Ranch and Logan County until 2001 when they moved back to North Platte. He worked for Snell Services until retirement. Ronnie loved fishing and gardening. He enjoyed spending time working in the yard. He also had a deep love for his pet dogs and birds. He liked to tell stories of the good old days and got a kick out of teasing his daughter, 3 sons, and 11 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, LouAnn of North Platte; daughter, Stephanie (Bill) Phye of North Platte; sons, Ronald Weigel, Jr., Greg (Kodi) Weigel, and Joseph (Ashley) all of North Platte; grandchildren, Zac, Maxx, Amber, Elliott, Chloe, Lillian, Kinley, Joseph, Kole, Owen, and Lyric all of North Platte; brothers, Randy (Lori) Weigel of North Platte, Roger Cooper of Indiana, Richard Cooper of Stapleton, and Sonny Cooper of Indiana; and his beloved companion, Maggie “Buttons”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Joe Wolf; sister, Judy Ann Cooper; father-in-law, William Thomas; and mother-in-law, Virginia Thomas.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Harvest Christian Fellowship in North Platte, with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. Burial with military honors graveside will follow the service at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Casual dress is encouraged as Ronnie would prefer that. Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements.
