2 Men Convicted for Roles in Lincoln Slaying Last August

gavel-and-scaleLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Two men accused in the slaying of a 21-year-old Lincoln man during a botched home invasion robbery have taken deals.

23-year-old Jason Holmes and 26-year-old Michael Nevels pleaded no contest and were convicted this week of being accessories to robbery. Prosecutors had lowered the charges in exchange for Holmes’ and Nevels’ pleas.

Prosecutors have said Holmes was the getaway driver and Nevels was found with the weapon used to kill Maurice Williams last August.

Court records say two other defendants in the case have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted robbery. Awaiting trials are 19-year-old Joshua Carr, who also is known as Joshua Nootenboom-Carr, and 23-year-old Derick Lewis.
