Storm Hire David Fine As New Broadcaster

tcstormKEARNEY, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm has announced the hiring of David Fine as the team’s new Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting.

Fine recently graduated with a broadcast journalism and digital journalism degree from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. While at school, Fine worked as a Media Relations/Broadcast Assistant with the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League (AHL) for four seasons.

This summer, Fine, 22, has served as the Assistant Director of Media Relations/Broadcasting for the Lansing Lugnuts, the single-A baseball affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays in the Midwest League.

“I am excited and honored to join an excellent organization,” Fine said. “Dana Wright, Monte Dakan and Bill Muckalt have all been so wonderful to me as I prepare for my first season with the club. I have learned about the special place this team holds in central Nebraska and cannot wait to meet Storm fans in the community. We are going to have fun this season.”

Fine also called play-by-play for Syracuse University basketball, football and lacrosse on WAER Radio, the school’s public station, for four years.

In the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America’s (STAA) All-America Program, which recognizes the top collegiate radio and TV sportscasters in the country, Fine was ranked No. 4 in 2014 and recently placed at No. 6 in the most recent list this May.

The broadcaster also called games in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Orleans Firebirds during the summer of 2014.

“David Fine was at the top of our list during the entire hiring process,” said Dana Wright, Vice President of Business Operations for the Storm. “His resume and accolades stood out above the rest. We had a lot of great candidates, but he’s definitely got a lot of excitement and creativity that he’s going to bring to the position. We’re very excited to have him join our team, and can’t wait to hear his broadcasts.”

Fine has also had media relations responsibilities with WAER Radio and the Lakewood Blue Claws, a Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

All Storm games will continue to air on Platte River Radio, with The Breeze, 94.5 FM as the team’s flagship station.

The Storm will kick off their 16th season at the Viaero Event Center on September 25 when they take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:30 p.m. 2015-16 season tickets are on sale now. Call 308-338-8011 to reserve your seats.
