Mary Louise (Horne) Eshleman, age 92 of North Platte, went home to be with her Lord on September 3, 2015 in her daughter’s home in Lincoln, surrounded by family.
Mary was born on August 27, 1923 in Upton, WY to Frank and Viola (Eaves) Horne. She moved to Nebraska in the mid-1920s where family farmed near the Maywood and Tryon areas, later moving to North Platte. She and Lawrence W. Eshleman were married on May 22, 1946 and to this union two children were born. Son Lawrence “Butch” W. Eshleman was born on April 15, 1947 and daughter Cindy L. Eshleman was born on April 1, 1950. Mary worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte, first as a nurse aide, then trained as an LPN, passing her Boards in 1953 and continuing to work at St. Mary’s for several years. In 1955 Mary and Lawrence began a longtime career managing the American Legion Club in North Platte. After Lawrence died in 1973, Mary continued to co-manage the club with the late Larry and Joan Eshleman. Mary retired after 40 years of management in 1998 at the age of 72. She enjoyed watching old movies, cooking, especially for her family gatherings, dancing, playing bingo, and traveling as much as possible with her dear friend, the late Elaine Anderson. Mary had a very strong work ethic, having her first job at the age of 10. As a manager of the Legion, she took pride in running a tight ship. She was honest, fair, on-time and believed there was only one way to do a job, and that was the “right way”. Mary was one who spoke her mind “as only Mary could”! She was very patriotic, belonging to the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW and faithfully attended all Memorial Day services at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery since WWII through 2015, decorating up to 14 graves this past year. She lived an active, independent life, remaining in her own home till the age of 91. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, and will be greatly missed by her family. Mary made a profession of faith in the Lord as her personal Savior this past year.
Mary is survived by her daughter Cindy (Brad) Andreesen of Lincoln; daughter-in-law Barb Eshleman of Brady; 4 grandchildren Cameron Andreesen of Lincoln, Greg Eshleman of North Platte, Kelly (Derek) Brown of North Platte and Sarah (James) Regier of Lincoln; 4 great grandchildren Breken Brown, Cory Eshleman, Justin Eshleman and Owen Regier; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lawrence W. Eshleman; son Lawrence “Butch” Eshleman; brothers Dale and Howard Horne; and sister Lois (Horne) Lindemuth.
