Dello named captain, assistant captains announced

stormKearney, Ne. – Storm Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt announced defenseman Tory Dello has been named team captain for the 2015-16 season and Dan Labosky, Jake Wahlin and Mattias Goransson have been tabbed as assistant captains.

All four leaders are returners to Tri-City; Dello is beginning his third full season with the Storm and started as an affiliate player in 2012-13.

“Tory has a lot of experience and he’s going to be a good role model for the younger players,” said Muckalt. “I’m excited to have his maturity to help with the leadership core.”

In 102 USHL games, the 18-year-old Dello has four goals and 24 points. The Notre Dame commit made his first appearance in the Clark Cup Playoffs last season, helping to steer the squad to the semifinals.

“It’s a huge honor to be named captain,” said Dello. “I’m looking forward to growing each day with this group throughout the season.”

Forwards Labosky and Wahlin and the defenseman Goransson comprise the rest of the group, wearing the “A” in 2015-16.

“The thing I like is all these guys have played in the USHL and know what it takes to be successful at this level,” said Muckalt.

Labosky, 20, is on the Storm’s roster to begin the season for the first time since 2013-14, though he played for Tri-City last season after a brief stint at Colorado College. After returning from NCAA play, Labosky ripped seven goals and tallied 17 assists in 41 games.

Wahlin, 18, is the Storm’s leading returning scorer; he scored 15 goals and 41 points for Tri-City last season. The 5-foot-9, 170-lb. forward begins his second year with the Storm and is committed to play college hockey at St. Cloud State.

The 20-year-old Goransson is the leading returning blueline scorer (7g, 28pts) and begins his second season with the Storm. He is committed to play hockey at UMass-Lowell.

“It means a lot the younger guys on the team looked up to all of us in the leadership group,” said Dello.

Tri-City is to open the season this Friday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. against the Omaha Lancers. There is a special pregame barbeque planned for 5:30 in front of the rink. The first 500 fans through the doors receive a free Storm t-shirt courtesy of Viaero Wireless.
