Kearney, Ne. – Storm goalie Jake Kielly has been named CCM “Goaltender of the Week” for week two of the regular season, the USHL announcedMonday.

Jake Kielly earned a 31-save shutout in his first USHL start, a 2-0 win over the Chicago Steel. Kielly started strong with eight saves in the first period and made 23 saves over the final two periods to secure the win.

While Kielly held, defenseman John Marino, named USHL “Defenseman of the Week” in week one, scored the go-ahead goal early in the third, helping Tri-City move to 3-0-0 to begin the season, the best start in franchise history since 2003-04 (4-0-0).

In 2003-04, the Storm had its best regular season in franchise history, winning 43 games and earning 91 points en route to taking the Anderson Cup. That Storm club was helped by future NHL goalie Peter Mannino, who watched the Storm sweep the Steel this weekend as an Assistant Coach with Chicago.

Kielly and Lincoln netminder Peyton Jones are the only two USHL goalies to record shutouts this season.

Kielly, 19, comes to the Storm from the Austin Bruins (NAHL), where he boasted a 20-5-1 record and a 2.12 goals-against-average.

The Storm have allowed one even strength goal this season, in the third period of a 5-1 win Opening Night against the Omaha Lancers. The Storm have allowed four goals, the fewest goals in the USHL.

This weekend, Tri-City hosts the undefeated Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Free Kids Friday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m., catch the Storm take on Des Moines on “Huskers Night” and grab a Coca-Cola Family Four Fourpack, with four tickets for $40 plus four cokes, four hot dogs and four bags of chips.
