KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes for Kansas City, and the game clock finally stopped Johnny Manziel as the Chiefs held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 17-13 on Sunday for their franchise record-tying ninth consecutive victory.

Santa Clara, Calif. – Nebraska rolled for a season-high 326 rushing yards and 500 yards of total offense to ground UCLA’s high-powered passing attack and claim a 37-29 win over the Bruins in the Foster Farms Bowl on Saturday night.
Nebraska stuck with a smash-mouth game plan all night, scoring 30 unanswered points after falling behind 21-7 in the second quarter at Levi’s Stadium. Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. accounted for 250 yards of total offense, including 76 rushing yards on 10 carries with one touchdown. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Peyton Manning is vehemently refuting a report set to air on Al Jazeera that contends the Denver Broncos quarterback received human growth hormone through his wife during his recovery from neck fusion surgeries in 2011 in Indianapolis.
In a statement Saturday night, Manning said: “The allegation that I would do something like that is complete garbage and is totally made up. It never happened. Never.”

Lincoln – Nebraska’s Jessica Shepard earned National Freshman of the Week honors from the United States Basketball Writer’s Association (USBWA) for the week ending Dec. 20. The award was announced on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — Uncertainty about the future of Cabela’s is creating financial challenges for a new aquatic center under construction in Sidney.
The city’s bonding agency, Ameritas Investment Corp., has declined to sell bonds to finance the $5.4 million aquatic center under construction.
Interim City Manager Geri Anthony says the agency cited concerns about whether the retail giant will remain headquartered in Sidney.
Mayor Mark Nienheuser says U.S. Bank in Lincoln had agreed to underwrite a $4 million loan via a 15-year note at an interest rate of 2.9 percent. Under the terms of the loan, the city would make annual payments of about $381,000 a year and a balloon payment of $1.8 million in 2023.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 28-year-old man faces first-degree murder and weapons charges in the stabbing death of a 34-year-old in Omaha.
Omaha police say they arrested Courtney Moore following an investigation into the death of Johnny K. Moore. Police say they responded to the reported stabbing just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday in north Omaha. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they’re still investigating.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say more than $4,000 worth of guns and jewelry were stolen from a Lincoln pawn shop.
AAA Ultimate Pawn was burglarized early Sunday morning. Assistant Lincoln Police Chief Brian Jackson says the incident was reported around 5 a.m.
Jackson says investigators believe the burglar got into the shop by damaging the back door.
Store employees were still taking inventory of the missing items Sunday afternoon, but Jackson says the total loss exceeded $4,000.
