NPCC Lady Knights Volleyball to Host Central

NPCC Knights LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team will host the Central Community College Lady Raiders at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.

The match will be a Region IX Division II contest. The winner will have sole possession of first place in the region. Both teams are 1-0 in Region IX play. Central leads the all-time series record between the two schools 85-72. The Lady Knights have only won four of the last 20 matches against Central, but the Lady Knights did defeat the Lady Raiders in their last matchup last season.

Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “This will be another good game for us as it is a Region IX game against a good Central team. It will give us a good gage to see where we are. I would like to see us step it up on the defensive side and be able to terminate out of defense. I think if we control the ball on our side we will find success.

The Lady Raiders come into the match with a 13-5 record and ranked eighth in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Volleyball poll. Sophomore Keshia Ellwanger leads the Lady Raiders with 174 kills. Ellwanger also has a .293 kill efficiency and 35 total blocks. Chainey Tompkin has 80 total blocks, which is fourth in the nation. Other leaders for the Lady Raiders are: Riley Dorn with 635 set assists, and Sydney Yong with 252 digs.

The Lady Knights are 7-9 on the season. Josie Palmer, a sophomore from Brady leads the Lady Knights in kills with 152, and Jessica Lovitt has 120 kills. Lovitt has 59 total blocks, and is 22nd on the Lady Knights Career blocks list with 173. Shelby Wolever has 329 set assists on the season and 1323 in her career, which places her 12th all-time Lady Knights list. She needs only nine more assists to catch Lady Knights coach McCall for 11th. Megan Chintala leads the Lady Knights with 271 defensive digs. Chintala is 14th in school history with 944 career defensive digs.
