Mary J. Sedlacek

Mary Joan (Wilson) Sedlacek, age 84 of North Platte, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday February 9, 2019 at Linden Court Care Center in North Platte.

Mary was born September 25, 1934 in Omaha, NE to Matthew and Evelyn (Laughorst) Wilson.  She graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1952 and from Creighton St. Joseph School of Nursing in Omaha in 1955.  She met her future husband, Joe, while he was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha  and they were married on March 2, 1957.  They lived for a time in Kimball, Ogallala and briefly in Omaha before settling in North Platte.  They had four children, Juliann (deceased), Jerald (who died in infancy), Michael and Jeanie.  Mary worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte, and completed her career at Home Health Care, which was her passion.  She was regarded as dedicated and compassionate by her co-workers and patients and was known for her infectious laugh.  She was privileged to serve as Eucharistic Minister at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and also provided communion to shut-ins.

Mary is survived by her children Dr. Michael (Debra) Sedlacek of Bellevue, NE, and Dr. Jeanie (John) Iberlin of Buffalo, WY; grandchildren Lucie Sedlacek of Bellevue, NE, Grace (David) Schumacher of Lincoln, and Danielle Barent of Denver, CO; sisters Marcia (Jim) Petersen and Michelle Aden both of North Platte;  brothers Bernie (Rose) Wilson of Omaha, NE and Joe (Linda) Wilson of Lincoln, NE; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Evelyn Wilson; husband Joe; infant son Jerald; daughter Juliann; and sister Evelyn Perlinger; and brother-in-law Dick Aden.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 12, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Reverend Vidya Sagar Arikotla as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Paxton Cemetery.  Visitation will be noon until 8:00 p.m. Monday February 11, 2019 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
