Nels L. Clang (1934-2019)

Nels L. Clang, 85, of North Platte, passed away May 7, 2019 at North Platte Care Center. He was born February 12, 1934 to Fred A. and Ellen (Pettis-Tyson) Clang at Broken Bow.

He graduated in 1952 from Anselmo High School. Nels served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He was united in marriage to Loretta Kieborz, May 29, 1960. To this union five boys were born, Robert, Joe, Daniel, Ronald and James. They moved to North Platte in 1968 where Nels taught heating, ventilation and air conditioning at Mid Plains Community College for 33 years. He also owned his own HVAC business in North Platte for many years.

Nels enjoyed music at all levels. He played for dances at the senior center starting with Butch Kilmer Band and ending with Golden Classics. In 1976, Nels and his Uncle Charlie Pettis, were chosen to represent Nebraska at the Smithsonian for a Bicentennial Celebration. He loved Blue Grass music, playing with the Sandy Rivers Boys for 10 years .He was inducted into the Nebraska Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Nels was a master luthier, working on all musical instruments. He belonged to the old car club, building his late 1920’s Dodge Brothers car. He enjoyed hunting and taught hunters safety courses. He was an active member of the Wesleyan Church and most recently Bethel Church. Nels lived a full life and everything he did was geared towards his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; his parents and a sister, Wanda Seevers.

Nels is survived by his sons, Robert (Judy) Clang of North Platte, Joe (Yvonne) Clang of North Platte, Daniel (Tamara) Clang of Greeley, CO, Ronald (Marjorie) Clang of Colorado Springs, CO and James (Stefini) Clang of Broken Bow; grandchildren, Larry, David (Tina), Jamdan, Aaron (Sara), Caala, Emma, Matthew, Renee, Timothy, Jonathan, Benjamin, Brandon (Nichelle), Tasha, Abigail (Camron), Guydon and Charlie; great grandchildren, Gavin, Baylee, Rowan, Fynlee, Joseph, Parker, Brody, Miley, Ella and Hazel; brothers, Fred(Laura Mae) Clang of North Platte and Don Clang of Denver, CO ; sisters, Vera Veith of North Platte, Clara (Jack) Connely of York.

Hilda M. Jeffers (1928-2019)

Hilda M. Jeffers, 90, of North Platte, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Hilda was born September 18, 1928, to William and Gertrude (Paitz) Gibbons north of Kearney.  She attended Pleasanton School and graduated from there in 1945 then went to Kearney State College for a year, earning her teaching certificate and later received her BA in Elementary Education. Hilda taught country school in Buffalo County.  She later taught in Lincoln County at Osgood Elementary for many years then went on to teach at McDaid Elementary for 20 years.

On June 7, 1950, Hilda was united in marriage to Rexford Lee ‘Si’ Jeffers at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Prairie Center, Nebraska.  They eventually settled in North Platte with Si’s job on the railroad and raised three children.

After retiring from teaching, Hilda helped at the Senior Center delivering Meals on Wheels.  She enjoyed doing needle work and many other crafts as well as camping trips with Si.  Hilda loved her family and being with friends.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and volunteered at the Bargain Bin.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Si, of North Platte; children, Sylvia Thornton, of McCook, Colleen (Jim) Larsen, of North Platte and Gary Jeffers, of Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Gianna (Luis) Nolda, Jessamy Thornton (Mike Generette), Micah Larsen, Jeremy (Carolyn) Larsen, Brian (Toshanna) Jeffers and Christina (Thomas) Dodson; great-grandchildren, Steffani, Lexis, Evie, Henry, Harmony, Alexia and Stephen; and other family members.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude Gibbons; brothers, Paul and Dennis Gibbons; sister, Irene Macek; and infant sister, Margaret.

Cremation was chosen.  A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, May 13th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jeffer’s home, 2317 Anna Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to St. Patrick’s Catholic School Endowment Fund.  The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Dean Ryschon

Thomas Dean Ryschon, 73, of North Platte passed away May 3, 2019 at the Sutherland Care Center.

He was born on July 20, 1946 in Hastings to Bernard H. and Lois A. (Dunbar) Ryschon.

Tom was employed as a conductor and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tom is survived by his son, Thomas Dean (Kathleen) Ryschon of North Platte; daughter, Tammy Jo (Bill) Zulkowski of Kearney; brothers, Richard Jo Ryschon of North Platte, and David Ryschon of North Carolina; 2 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Arthur Lee Ray III, 75, of North Platte, died at Great Plains Health on Sunday, May 5, 2019.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be no service.  Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Sharon Kay DeVino-McWain (1958-2019)

Sharon Kay DeVino-McWain, beloved wife, sister and mom, 60, of North Platte passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Sharon was born July 24, 1958, in North Platte to Pasquale and Florance (Pugh) DeVino. Sharon grew up in North Platte and attended North Platte High School and earned her diploma with the Class of 1976.
Sharon was an amazing woman with a huge heart of gold who never knew an enemy. She would never hesitate to say hi to a stranger anywhere and loved to talk with people. She was a very loving woman who was loved by everyone who knew her. She lived for her family, especially her son, Brian. Her favorite things were the color pink, music, hearts and peacocks. She liked peacocks because of how they would lose their feathers once a year and then the feathers would come back and the birds would look beautiful again. To her it symbolized new beginnings. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone and would often volunteer at the Eagles Club where she was a member for many years. She will be tremendously missed by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her brother, Pat John (PJ) DeVino; her father, Pasquale (Pat) DeVino; her first mom, Florance; and her second mom, Lavina.

Sharon leaves behind her husband Mike McWain; brother, Bruce DeVino; sons, Brian DeVino and Michael Grossman; mother-in-law, Betty McWain; Mistie (Matt Carpenter), Shanda, Angel, Christina McWain; grandchildren, Christian, Ley Ley, Aydynn, Addison and Haley; lifetime best sister-friend, Cathy Razes and the Razes family. This earthly angel is now a heavenly angel.

Dale Eugene Murphy (1950-2019)

Dale Eugene Murphy Jr. 69, of North Platte passed away April 30, 2019 at the Lexington Regional Health Center.

Dale was born on March 14, 1950 in Broken Bow, NE to Dale and Rozella (Love) Murphy.

Dale was a diesel mechanic for most of his life and worked for Detco Travel Center for many years.  He was a happy-go-lucky fella with an amazing green thumb!

Survivors include his sister, Nina (Larry) Hardy of Seneca; brothers, Ronald Murphy, and Mitch (Jan) Murphy all of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Fredia Dennis; brother-in-law, George Dennis; sister-in-law, Bonnie Murphy.

Cremation was chosen.  Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Riverview Cemetery near Sutherland with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating.  Those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

 

Timothy James McQuade (1949-2019)

Timothy James McQuade, 70 of North Platte, Nebraska passed away with his family by his side on April 11, 2019.

His larger than life persona, eccentric personality of charm and feistiness will not be forgotten.

He was born March 19, 1949 in Valentine Nebraska to Thomas and Betty (Auhl) McQuade.

Tim attended Valentine school until his family moved to North Platte his junior year.

He graduated North Platte High school in 1967. March 27, 1971 he married Janet Connery of Cody, Nebraska. They had two children Travis and Trea. He worked as a sheet metal worker/ water service welder for Union Pacific railroad until 1991.

Tim enjoyed hunting coyotes, wild turkey, bobcats, and deer. More of his hobbies included arrowhead hunting, shooting archery, ice fishing and bowfishing. He had many master angler awards and multiple state records.

A teller of tales, enjoyed outlaw country music, loved wildlife shows, Dr. Pepper, eggnog and coconut cream pie.

Tim was fascinated with petrified wood, fossils, artifacts, antiques, and native American life. He collected guns and favored pre 1964 Winchester shotguns and rifles.  Tim loved to take photographs and home videos on his adventures. He entertained friends and family playing his harmonica, banjo, jews harp, and spoons.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Jan McQuade of North Platte. His sister, Yvonne Connery (Dan) of Mitchell, Nebraska. A brother-in-law Gary Connery (Kay) of North Platte. A sister-in-law Mary McQuade of North Platte. His children, Travis McQuade and Trea (McQuade) Stone and her husband Josh of Kearney, Nebraska. He has 5 grandchildren; Madison Oates (Brandon) Sierra McQuade (Tyler Perry), Austin, Kaden and Jayna.  Two great granddaughters Laikynn and Hartley. Many nieces and nephews.  He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed telling them stories from the “good ole days” He didn’t get along with technology easily. His grandchildren got a kick out of his old fashioned ways and still laugh about the time he tried to use the tv remote to make a phone call.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Judy McQuade) Schaffert (Larry) and Bernadette (McQuade) Bales (Carl “Buzz”) of North Platte. A brother, Tom McQuade of North Platte. His lifelong best friend Gary Galloway of Valentine, Nebraska and numerous family and friends.

Robert Eugene Williss (1929-2019)

Robert Eugene Williss, 89 of North Platte passed away April 26, 2019 at his home.

Bob was born in Gage County, Nebraska on September 6, 1929, the oldest of 5 children, to James and Sally (Cripe) Williss.

He was united in marriage to Vivian Bernice Roschewski on July 3, 1951.  To this union two children were born, Mickey and Vickie.

Bob worked in Beatrice, NE in the police force for many years.  He later moved to North Platte and worked for Nebraska Machinery and was later employed at the Union Pacific Railroad where he then retired.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice, and son, Mickey; and 2 sisters, May and Marjorie.

Survivors include his daughter, Vickie (Bruce) Brinker of North Platte; grandchildren, Mike & Staci Cart of Kansas City, Tanille (Thomas) Keefer, and Cyrus Tilford; step-grandchildren, James (Shauna) Brinker of Englewood, CO, Stacy (Reece) Brinker of Tulsa, OK; a brother, Russell (Jean) Williss of Lincoln; a sister, Shirley (Dick) Jirovec of Crete, NE; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Lorene Huebner (1925-2019)

Lorene Huebner, 93, of Hershey passed away April 25, 2019 at Linden Court.

Lorene was born June 10, 1925 in rural Hershey to Clarence and Ida (Johnson) Runner.

Lorene graduated from Hershey Public Schools in 1943 and attended the Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney.

On October 30, 1946 she married Lloyd “Slick” Huebner at the Hershey Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death September 20, 1987.

Lorene had many hobbies which included sewing, knitting, playing piano and organ, attending sporting and school events of her children and grandchildren, and furniture restoration.  She was a volunteer for many years at the Lincoln County Historical Museum, was active in the Hershey Centennial Committee, and enjoyed sharing her memories of the North Platte Canteen.  Lorene was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Mary (George) Binger.

Survivors include her children, John T. (Lisa) Huebner of Hershey, Marcia (Don) Colvin of North Platte, Mark (Lee) Huebner of North Platte, and Ann Keenan of Oak Park, CA; brothers, Blaine (Betty) Runner of Sutherland and Robert (Jane) Runner of Hyannis; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
