Beverly J. Middleton

Beverly “Bev” J. Middleton, 86, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died on February 7, 2019 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.  “Death took her body, but God took her soul.”

Bev was born on December 2, 1932 on the family farm near Home, Michigan, the daughter of Murl & Helen (Roepke) Swayze.  The family moved to Chicago when she was 3 years old; then they moved to Montana where she started elementary school.  They then moved to Wisconsin for a couple of years before moving to Stillwater, Minnesota.  Bev graduated from Stillwater High in 1953.  A year later, she married and to this union four children were born: Sandy, Bryan, Randy and Joy.  The marriage later ended in divorce.  While living in Minnesota, she worked for St. John’s Hospital as a private nurse before moving to Nebraska.  In 1973, she married Sumner Middleton, the love of her life.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, and then sharing these gifts with family and friends.  She also had a large garden which she gave away or canned.  Sumner and Bev built a home at Jeffery Lake soon after they were married and they lived there for the next 23 years.  After his passing, she continued to live there for a few years until moving to Gothenburg.

Bev was a member of the “Red Hats” and was a Calendar Girl with the Brady Beauties.  She enjoyed reading and was a member of the Library.  She loved helping people whenever she could.  She taught preschool Sunday School Classes at Church for many years.  She was a member of the Extension Club.  She spent many hours crocheting and made a crib size blanket for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Bev was known for her sense of humor and the great love she had for her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sumner, her parents, daughter Joy Kuhlman, son Randy Haugen, step-son, Dave Middleton, and brother, Gene.

Survivors include her family Sandy (Tom) Burnett, Bryan (Tracy) Haugen, Deb Middleton, Steve (Kathreine) Middleton, Cathy Russo; grandchildren Bob (Peggy) Bailey, Brenda Bailey, Tara Reinheart, Danielle Haugen, Matthew Haugen, Josh Haugen, Nick Sitorius, Jake Sitorius, Sonie Kuhlman, Ellie (Rob) Krysl, Ben (Amy) Middleton, Sam Middleton, mary (Blake) Streeter, Will Middleton, and Alysha Haugen; great-grandchildren Hanna, Loren, MaKinsey, Teagan, Trenton, Bailey, Dakotah, Summer, Ryder Haugen; Aspen, Jadyn, Nathan, Quinton, Kaitlyn, Natalie Sitorius; Miles, Maggie Streeter, and Leo Middleton; and her devoted dog, Princess.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Blase-Stauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth Street, Gothenburg, Nebraska on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Peckham Cemetery in Gothenburg.

Mary J. Sedlacek

Mary Joan (Wilson) Sedlacek, age 84 of North Platte, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday February 9, 2019 at Linden Court Care Center in North Platte.

Mary was born September 25, 1934 in Omaha, NE to Matthew and Evelyn (Laughorst) Wilson.  She graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1952 and from Creighton St. Joseph School of Nursing in Omaha in 1955.  She met her future husband, Joe, while he was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha  and they were married on March 2, 1957.  They lived for a time in Kimball, Ogallala and briefly in Omaha before settling in North Platte.  They had four children, Juliann (deceased), Jerald (who died in infancy), Michael and Jeanie.  Mary worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte, and completed her career at Home Health Care, which was her passion.  She was regarded as dedicated and compassionate by her co-workers and patients and was known for her infectious laugh.  She was privileged to serve as Eucharistic Minister at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and also provided communion to shut-ins.

Mary is survived by her children Dr. Michael (Debra) Sedlacek of Bellevue, NE, and Dr. Jeanie (John) Iberlin of Buffalo, WY; grandchildren Lucie Sedlacek of Bellevue, NE, Grace (David) Schumacher of Lincoln, and Danielle Barent of Denver, CO; sisters Marcia (Jim) Petersen and Michelle Aden both of North Platte;  brothers Bernie (Rose) Wilson of Omaha, NE and Joe (Linda) Wilson of Lincoln, NE; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Evelyn Wilson; husband Joe; infant son Jerald; daughter Juliann; and sister Evelyn Perlinger; and brother-in-law Dick Aden.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 12, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Reverend Vidya Sagar Arikotla as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Paxton Cemetery.  Visitation will be noon until 8:00 p.m. Monday February 11, 2019 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

 

Daniel E. Edwards

Daniel E. Edwards, 71, of North Platte, passed away on February 7, 2019 at his home surrounded with his family.

He was born March 29, 1947 to Donald Earl and Virginia (Land) Edwards in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He graduated from Omaha South High School.  On March 27, 1971, he was united in marriage to Diana Dancer in Omaha.  They were married for over 47 years.  They moved to North Platte in 1972 and later he hired out as a fireman/oiler on January 22, 1974 with the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring on October 1, 2012.  Diana was the love of his life and he would do anything for her.  He enjoyed spending his time with his family, playing cards and restoring classic cars.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Diana of North Platte; son, Daniel D. (Beth) Edwards of Valley, Nebraska; daughters, Misty Alexander, Brandi Mitchell, and Pam Edwards all of North Platte; mother-in-law, Velma Carlson; grandchildren, Britton (Amber) Edwards, Alexis Edwards, Aaron Moore, Zack Edwards, Trevor Alexander, Zavion Mitchell, Tayvier Mitchell, Jason Lehnert, Sara Edwards, JaRek Edwards, and JeMyah Mayhue; great grandchildren, Taelynn Edwards and Emmalynn Edwards; and a brother, David (Helen) Edwards of Bellevue, Nebraska.

Samuel Charles “Sam” Henline

Samuel Charles “Sam” Henline, age 31, passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2018 at his home in Greeley, Colorado.  Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. MT on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 3800 West 20th Street in Greeley, Colorado.  Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Marjorie Ellen Welsh

Marjorie Ellen Welsh, 90, of North Platte, Nebraska died on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Marjorie was born on  March 21, 1928 to Thomas and Trixie Fuqua in Yancyville, North Carolina.  She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1945.

In July of 1945, Marjorie married LaVerne Eugene Welsh and they were happily married for 63 years when LaVerne passed away in 2008.

She is survived by two daughters, Janie Hopkins and her husband James of Kearney and Rocky Casner and her husband Paul of Glenwood, Maryland; grandson, Jonathan Hopkins and his wife Stacey of North Sioux City, South Dakota; granddaughters, Dr. Kate Thornton and her husband Michael LeLorenzo of Waban, Massachusetts and Jean Butera and her husband Larry of Ellicott City, Maryland; three great grandsons and three great granddaughters; and other family.

Along with her huband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Creamation was chosen.  A private family inurnment will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.  The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com, or with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Lee D. Vencill

Lee D. Vencill, age 50 of North Platte, died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at his home.

Lee was born on January 17, 1969 in North Platte, Nebraska to Larry D. Sr and Carole (Wonka) Vencill.  He attended North Platte  High School and then went to work for Cleveland Technologies, a subcontractor for the Union Pacific Railroad.  After they closed, Lee worked at various places including Simplot, Beveridge Well Drilling, and delivering medication for a pharmaceutical company.  He worked in the family business, trucking with Vencill Trucking, and later became a driver for Paulsen’s, which he has worked for the last 15 years.  Lee had a heart of gold and would help anybody he could.  He loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his dogs.  He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle person who enjoyed his simple life.

Survivors include his parents, Larry Sr. and Carole Vencill; siblings, Lori (Tom) Bell, Larry Jr. (Tina) Vencill, Lyndy (Dave) Fleecs, and his twin, Lisa (Bill) Rosenof, all of North Platte; his children, Rusty (Deedra) De Garmo and Shiela De Garmo, all of North Platte; grandchildren, Porter, Billie, Mackenzie, Gavin; nieces and nephews, Makayla, Ashley, Michael, Casey, Bethany, Matthew, Krystien, Lauralee, Lydia, Anthony, Eddie, Tatianna, Hannah, and Desiree; aunts Janice Jones and Clara Vencill; and many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adolph and Eleanor Wonka and Myrtle and Arthur Single; and uncles Ton Jones and Fred Vencill.

Donald Dean Langmacher

Donald Dean Langmacher, age 88 of rural Paxton, Nebraska, passed away Thursday January 31, 2019 at the Perkins County Health Services Hospital.

Don was born December 19, 1930 to William “Bill” and Olinda (Heinrich) Langmacher in his grandparent’s farmhouse south of Paxton.  He attended District 70 country school through 8th grade and graduated from Paxton High School in 1948.  He lived all his life on the farm and with guidance from his uncles, began farming at the age of 12.  Farming was not just a job, but a way of life for Don.  He was a steward of the land and loved what he did.  He was drafted into the military in 1952 and served in the US Marine Corps until May of 1954.  On May 22, 1955 Don was united in marriage to Marcia Butenschoen in Arapahoe, Nebraska.  Four children were born to this marriage.  Don was very civic-minded and served on the board of several local organizations:  Paxton Schools, Paxton Rural Fire Department, Farmers Coop Elevator, the area FHA, and Ogallala Community Hospital.  He also belonged to the Lions Club, American Legion, and the Lutheran Church.  He served on the church council and was instrumental in forming New Life Lutheran Church in Paxton.  Don enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and goose hunting.  He will be remembered for his generosity, his work ethic, his willingness to adopt innovative farming techniques and embrace modern technology, as well as his love of family.

Don is survived by his wife Marcia; daughters Trudy (Bill) Connors of Kearney, Julee (Dave) Green and Dana (Mike) Loeffler of Paxton, and Pam (Troy) Schon of Valparaiso; grandchildren Alicia (Matt), Ashley (Ryan), Cheyanne, Jordan, Alexander and Weston; great grandchildren Shayle, Kinsley, Adlea and Sable; sisters Dorothy (Vance) Bricker of Lexington and Kathy (Chuck J.) Griffith of North Platte; sister-in-law Audre DeVries of Cambridge; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
