Lawrence H. Tomjack, 80, of North Platte, passed away October 18, 2015 at the University of Colorado Hospital at Denver. Donald William Schwartz

Donald William Schwartz, 87, of North Platte, passed away October 20, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born to Raymond Phillip and Marie (Calmer) Schwartz on November 13, 1927 at Norfolk, NE. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church (LCMS) in rural Madison, NE. He briefly attended St. John’s Green Garden School before entering Madison High School. He worked in Omaha for a time and later hired out as a clerk on the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired for the Union Pacific in 1989 having completed over 39 years of service. He was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He attended Bible class, and served as church treasurer for numerous years. He was a charter member of the Diamond K Kiwanis Club, served as president and board member and was active in the club’s volunteer projects. He was also an active member of the Union Pacific Club #8 and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). He is survived by his wife, Joan of North Platte; a daughter, Nadine (Jim) Avary of Milford, NE; a son, Reverend Nathaniel (Gretchen) Schwartz of Rochester, MN; his brothers, Stanley (Peggee) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Vernon (Vicki) of Strawberry Point, Iowa; grandchildren, Angela and Jonathan Davis and Andrew (Kaitlin) Schwartz; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Schwartz, Mardell Schwartz, Esther Hawley, and Edna Paris; brothers-in-law, Darrel Lyon and William Kusch; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marilyn Lyon and Lois Schwartz; and brothers, Ervin and Eugene Schwartz. Frederick Lee Nabry

Frederick Lee Nabry, age 65 of North Platte passed away Friday October 16, 2015 in Denver, CO.
Fred was born on January 12, 1950 in Greenwood, MS to Otha and Margree (Wilson) Nabry. He attended North Platte High School where he was a stellar athlete in baseball, basketball, football and track. After high school worked for Sparrow Roofing Company until his health forced him to retire. He loved sports, especially the Chicago Bull, telling jokes and spending time with his family.
Fred is survived by his mother Margree Nabry of North Platte; children Stacia Towne of South Carolina, Sharee Talbot of Denver, CO and Fred Anthony Branscom of Mosby, MO; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and siblings Mary Corine (Benjamin) Perkins of Lincoln, Savannah Sellers of North Platte, half sister Sara Thiem of Lincoln, NE; special family members Martin (Kim) Sellers and Willie Sellers all of North Platte; as well as numerous other family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; and 2 sisters Ernestine and Juanita “Nina”.
Memorials are suggested in his name. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Harvest Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jacob Rahrig officiating. Inurnment will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Clayton Kenneth Yonker

Clayton Kenneth Yonker, age 88, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Clayton was born September 1, 1927, to George William and Faye Marie Umbenhower Yonker at Wallace, NE. He attended country school and ranched with his father until he joined the U.S. Army. Clayton served in Korea from 1951-53.

Following his discharge, Clayton returned to Nebraska and was united in marriage to JoAnn Geiger on December 30, 1953, at North Platte where they made their home. They raised three daughters and were foster parents to several boys. Clayton and JoAnn were married for nearly 60 years until she passed away in 2013.

Clayton drove the city bus then hauled bulk fuel for several years. He also owned a gas station at Hershey with Paul Hernandez for several years before going to work as a parts man for Orville Kaschke at John Deere. After retiring from John Deere Clayton worked part-time for Don Mentzer.

Clayton was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior and V.F.W. Post #1504.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Jay) Colburn, of Sutherland, NE, and Boni and (Lynn) Hothan, of Hershey, NE; six grandchildren, Melissa (Barrey) Konicek, Keri (Levi) Fisher, Amanda (Aaron) Brandes, Brenda (Ryan) Fisher, Will (Sharley) Cleveland and Chelsea Jury; six great-grandchildren, Sage and Devin Konicek, Mekenna and Peyton Fisher, Hope Boggs and Danica Cleveland; and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with his wife, JoAnn, Clayton was preceded in death by their daughter, Cheryl Yonker; brothers, Charles, Darrell and Harold Yonker; and parents, George and Faye.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior with Father Jeffrey Nelson officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Donna I. DeWeese

Donna I. DeWeese, 92, of Hildreth, formerly of North Platte, passed away October 20, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin, NE.
Donna was the 3rd child born to Marion and Nettie Byington, at their home near Riverview, NE on July 21, 1923. Donna was raised on the home place and farm in Keya Paha County, NE. She attended school at Riverview School and High School at Rock County High in Bassett, NE.
In 1943, Donna married Max DeWeese of Bassett, at Yuma, Arizona where Max was stationed in the Army. She followed Max from camp to camp as he was in the Military Police units and they moved often. In fifteen months they were in six different states. At the last camp, and the war was nearly over when Max was sent overseas. When the war ended, they made their home in Omaha, NE where both sons were born, Lonnie Max and Benny Gene.
When the boys got to school age they moved back to Bassett, Nebraska and raised their sons. In 1969, Max and Donna moved to North Platte where they made their home. Donna worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for four years and eleven years at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Donna loved to quilt and make baby quilts, do sewing and hand work. She also loved her flowers.
Donna moved to Hildreth, NE in 2014 and resided with her son, Lon and wife, Beverly, until August of 2015 when she entered the Golden Living Center at Franklin.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Lonnie M. (Beverly) DeWeese of Hildreth, NE and Benny G. (Brenda) DeWeese, of Irving, CA; grandchildren, Heidi (Russ) Harrison, Fullerton, CA; Troy (Nicole) DeWeese, Lake City, CA, Buddy (Martha) DeWeese, Axtell, NE; Laci McCall, Shelton, NE; Sheyenne (Keith) Harders, Wood River, NE; Shayne DeWeese, Pleasanton, NE, eight great grandchildren, Brennen, Cora, & Ethan Harrison, Madison DeWeese, Cory DeWeese, Chris and Greg DeWeese, Neala McCall; six great-great grandchildren; one brother, Gary Byington of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Max; mother and father; sisters, Eunice Crotty and Miriam Davis; brother, Don Byington; brother-in-law, Clint Davis; grandson, Monte DeWeese; a baby granddaughter; and niece, Candy Byington.

Myrna Christina Kohl

Myrna Christina Kohl age 95, longtime North Platte resident, departed this life to meet her Lord surrounded by the love of her family October 20, 2015 at Imperial NE. She was born March 11, 1920 in Kansas City, MO, where she was adopted at 6 weeks of age by her parents, Wallace and Caroline (Jespersen) Kohl. She grew up on the family farm in Ruskin, NE, during which time she was baptized. On September 4, 1943 she married her best friend and the love of her life, Erroll F. Kohl in Weber, KS. Shortly thereafter, Erroll was deployed with his Army unit to fight in WW II. She stayed behind on the family farm, near Wallace, NE, until his return after the war. She was an exceptional wife and loving mother to three children. Myrna enjoyed horses, gardening, camping and fishing. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Sharon Kay; sister, Viola; two brothers Jerome and Andrew; and granddaughter, Judy Griffiths.
She is survived by daughter, Carol (Gary) Bell of Brady, NE; and son, Robert (Debra) Kohl of Champion, NE; grandchildren, Tracy, Christine, Shary (Lafe), Michael, Merleta (Joseph), Sandy (Rob), Tony (Stephanie), Paul (Janita), Lyndsey (Lane), and ShyAnn; 30 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Janie Freeman officiating. Cremation was chosen, those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Joy Schultz

Marilyn Joy Schultz, age 84, of North Platte, NE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Marilyn was born June 18, 1931, to Orrie Filmore and Alice Irene Wright Birdsell at Wayne, NE where she grew up. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1949.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Myron Gene Schultz on August 5, 1949, in Sioux City, IA. They made their home in Wayne where they were members of the First Presbyterian Church. Marilyn later attended Wayne State College for a year and studied bookkeeping. After Myron passed away in 1970, she moved to North Platte in ’75.

Marilyn was a past member of the Eagles, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

She leaves behind her daughters, Kerry McDonald (Dan Johnson), of North Platte and Denise Schultz (Doug Zwiebel), of Loveland, CO; six grandchildren, KayLynn Schultz, Nikki Schultz, Shadelle (Nick) Ayers, Jeannie (Michael) Joyce, Stephany (Mike) Andersen and Rebecca McDonald; 20 great-grandchildren; her brother, James (Donna) Birdsell, of Greeley, CO; family friend, Mike Walter, of North Platte; and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with her husband, Myron, Marilyn was preceded in death by their son, James; parents, Orrie and Alice Birdsell; and a brother, Bob Birdsell.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Richard Karr officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to services on Friday. John R. Hupfer

John R. Hupfer, 79, of North Platte, passed away October 20, 2015 at his home. He was born October 10, 1936 to John A. and Hazel A. (Johansen) Hupfer at North Platte. He graduated from North Platte High School and on August 14, 1955, John was united in marriage to Sherry Schuler. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, during the Korean Conflict, until his honorable discharge. When he returned to North Platte, he was employed at Brewer Concrete and later at Paulsen’s. John was a faithful member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; a son, Ricky (Lona McAllister) Hupfer; two daughters, Diana (Mark) Burk and Judy Hupfer; two brothers, Tommy (Bobbi Sue) Hupfer and Richard (Julie) Hupfer; a sister, Barbara Harrop; five grandchildren, Mitzi (Leroy) Kramer, John (Heather) Hupfer, April (John) Perkins, Josh Hupfer and Chelsea Burk; and seven great grandchildren, Taylor, Holden, Logan, Mason, Kaidin “Shorty”, Zachary and Baylie. Ranae Sue Quimby

In Loving Memory of Ranae Sue Quimby

Ranae Sue Quimby, 42, of Thornton, CO passed away unexpectedly October 17, 2015 at her home. Ranae was born February 12, 1973 to Robert Howard and Ruth Kay (Fear) Quimby in North Platte, NE. She grew up in Sutherland, NE and was a proud graduate of Sutherland High School (class of 1991).
Following graduation, Ranae attended College at Colby Community College in Colby, KS. She continued her academic career at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work & Sociology.
Ranae worked as a social worker in Milwaukee, WI before moving to Denver, CO. Ranae continued her work in several different branches of government agencies, including her most recent position as a child care advocate and adoption case manager in Adams County Department of Human Services.
While in Milwaukee, Ranae began a lifelong partnership with Rod Moore. Rod and Ranae celebrated the birth of their son, Marcellous Taevin Moore, on December 3, 2000. They moved to Colorado in 2001.
Ranae was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sutherland, NE and former member of Sutherland 4H Clubs and Girl Scouts. She earned the recognition of Who’s Who in America High Schools in both Academic and Athletics.
She enjoyed all sports, but was a passionate Husker and Milwaukee Bucks fan. In later years, her favorite past time was spending days at the Sutherland Reservoir with family and friends.
Ranae was the strength of our family. Not only was she our families care taker, but she took on that role for her friends as well. No problem or issue was too big for her to handle or to try to solve. Every conversation with her family ended with her saying “I Love You”.
She was preceded in death by: her Grandparents, Joy and Lydia Fear; Howard and Anna Quimby; Mother-in-Law, Barbara Moore; Uncle and Aunt, Alfred and Ruby Molesworth and Uncle, Gene Anderson.
Ranae is survived by her husband, Rod Moore; Son, Taevin Moore; Parents, Robert H. and Ruth Quimby of Sutherland, NE; Sister, Ronda Quimby and friend, Mike Ross of Yakima, WA; Brother, Robert D. (R.D.) and wife Nancy Wortmann of Franktown, CO; Brother-in-Law, Brandon Moore and wife, Aryka; Nephew, Brandon Jr. and Alauna of St. Louis, MO, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
