Bevin Leroy Brown

bevin-brownBevin LeRoy Brown, age 69 of Stapleton, passed away Thursday May 7, 2015 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Bevin was born on January 29, 1946 in Chadron, NE to Thomas G. and Phyllis (Bump) Brown.  He grew up in Chadron and graduated in 1964.  He married Donna Parks on September 4, 1966 in Chadron.  He went to Chadron State where he received his BA in Physics.  He joined the US Army in 1969 where he served in Germany as a perching missile technician for 2 ½ years.  After his discharge he went into business with his father at Brown Oil Co. while he was finishing his teaching degree.  He earned several degrees including Bachelors of Science, Bachelors of Science and Math in Education, Master of Arts in Education Admin., Specialist Degree-Superintendent of Schools.  He served as a Secondary teacher for 4 years, as a Principal for 7 years and as a Superintendent for 9 years in the various towns of Trenton, Belle Fourche, Arapahoe, Holbrook, Hay Springs and Thedford.  He also owned and operated Brown Solutions with his son Matt for 8 years.  He was very active with the state Student Councils, acting as State Director for many years.  He was a Boys Scout Troop Leader and involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a participant and sponsor.  He was a board member and leader in his church community.  He served in many public offices in including the Rotary, NE STUCCO, as a school board member, church board member, Sunday school teacher and Special Olympic volunteer.  He loved to camp, fish, hunt and hike with his family, and especially liked making the kids pick up rocks.  He spent many hours with his children working on car restorations.  Bevin enjoyed being present for his grandchildren’s activities.

Bevin is survived by his mother Phyllis Brown of Scottsbluff; wife of 49 years, Donna Brown; sons Jonathan (Kelli) of Omaha, Michael (Janet) of Osmond, Christopher of Stapleton, Matthew (Carolee) of Tryon; grandchildren Marissa (Alan) Wilson of Albion, Nicholas Brown of Ft. Hood, TX, Nathaniel Brown and Zachary Brown both of Omaha, Alexandria Brestel of Osmond, and Michelle, Izabella, Fayth, Hunter and Gunner Brown all of Tryon; sister Cheri (Pat) Chitwood of Scottsbluff; sister-in-law Rita (Tom) Agnew of Omaha; brother-in-law Michael (Jackie) Parks of Ft. Collins, CO; as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Thomas G. Brown.

Tyler James Vanderheiden

tyler-vanderheiden-editedTyler James Vanderheiden died May 2nd 2015 in North Platte NE at the age of twenty.

Tyler is survived by his parents Tim and Shannon Vanderheiden, sister Sydney Vanderheiden, brother Will Vanderheiden of North Platte, Grandparents Derrill and Belinda Larrimore and Doug and Betsy Walker of Jackson Alabama. He is preceded in death by grandparents Don and Donna Vanderheiden of Broken Bow, Nebraska, and Grandfather Johnny James of Coffeeville Alabama.

Tyler was born on March 28, 1995 in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from North Platte High School in 2013. Tyler’s love for hunting and fishing has made many special memories.  His passion for the outdoors has taken him on many hunting and fishing trips with both friends and family. He had many special “hunting buddies” that shared his love for the great outdoors.   He was a great young man with a big heart.  Tyler had a genuine sense of humor and a big grin that others found to be contagious.  He loved to make others laugh and touched the hearts of so many.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday May 8th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with a reception to follow. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Rockville, Nebraska. Father Jim Golka will be the celebrant. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tyler’s life. William Alan ‘Al’ Roach

William Alan ‘Al’ Roach, 75, of Gothenburg, NE, formerly of North Platte, NE, died at his home on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.

Al was born June 2, 1939, to Floyd Arthur and Gladys Augusta Markee Roach at Maywood, NE. He spent his early years in Maywood and his later years in North Platte where he graduated from North Platte High School in 1957. He then joined the U.S. Navy in June and and served until 1961. Al married and had three children.

Following his discharge, Al remained in California where he worked at the Fullerton Music Store with his brother, Dale. Al returned to North Platte in the early ’60’s where he and his brother, Lauren, had Laural Electronics. Al later went to work for Murphy’s Modern Music for many years.

In 1972 Al married Dorys Jean Jenkins and they made North Platte their home before moving to El Paso, TX and Silver City, NM. They moved to Gothenburg in 2003 and were married for over 41 years until Dorys passed away in 2014.

Al was a member of the Church of Christ in Gothenburg and belonged to B.P.O. Elks #985, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion and V.F.W. #1504. He enjoyed music and played with various bands. Al and Dorys also played together under the name “Al and Dory”. In later years he kept his interest in music and learned to golf.

He is survived by his daughters, Connie (Gail) Cronin, of Clearwater, NE, and Deb Miller, of Omaha, NE; stepdaughters, Roselyn Kay (Preston) Polk, of Hazlehurst, MS, Christie Banowetz, of Lone Tree, CO, Ramona Jean Jenkins, of Warner Robins, GA and Laurie (Mike) Viter, of Brady, NE; three stepsons, George LaVerne (Tammy) Jenkins, of North Platte, Ken Lamoine (Jackie) Jenkins, of Lincoln, NE and Gregory Lynn (Marcy) Jenkins, of Sidney, NE; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his brother, Lauren Roach, of Silver City, NM; sisters, Marlene Sawyer and Elaine (Larry) Gosnell, of North Platte; sister-in-law, Audrey Roach, of Coosbay, OR; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with his wife, Dorys, Al was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Gladys Roach; a son, Bill, Jr.; brothers, Floyd, Jr. and Dale Roach; sister-in-law, Jackie Roach; and his brother-in-law, Sonny Sawyer.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Sid Kite officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Paul Hunn

Paul Hunn, age 82, passed away April 29, 2015 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE. He was born December 19, 1932 in Flandreau, SD to B. D. Hunn and Blanch (Ward) Hunn. They moved to Niobrara, NE and in 1938 to McPherson County where he spent the rest of his life. He graduated from McPherson County High School in Tryon, NE in 1950. He joined the US Navy in 1952 and served his country proudly in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Karen McClintock on June 20, 1954 and to this union 2 sons were born, Von (Connie), Amy, Keith, and David (Lorie), Sheyenne (Hunn) Sandstrom, and Slade. He had a good sense of humor, was an avid sports fan, and was a faithful blood donor, giving 23 gallons of blood. For 59 years he was a special care giver to his land and livestock; but most important in his life were his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, other family members, and his friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, B. D. and Blanch Hunn, his in-laws David and Audrey McClintock; brother Karl Hunn, sisters Lois Hunn, and Ruth (Hunn) Miller; brothers-in-law Al Miller, and Dennis Barner.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Karen Hunn; his sons Von (Connie) and David (Lorie); grandchildren Amy, Keith, Sheyenne (Mike) Sandstrom, and Slade; sisters Rose Barner, Shirley Miller; nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Elmer “Jr.” Schwenk

Elmer “Jr” Schwenk, was born April 12, 1935 to Elmer Schwenk and Helen Kee in Hamlet Nebraska. He married Patricia Ann O’Brien on September 27, 1957. In September of 2014 they celebrated 57 years of marriage. They welcomed their one and only daughter Danella Jo Schwenk on January 12, 1960. Jr held many jobs including Standard Oil, Sone’s International and Larry’s Radiator Sales and Service, where he retired at the age of 65. He enjoyed wood working, gardening and being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Helen Schwenk; his loving daughter, Danella Jo Schwenk; two brothers, Gene and Robert Schwenk; a sister in law, Lila Schwenk; and two brother in laws, Jack and Danny O’Brien. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Schwenk; his two granddaughters, Emily (Kyle) Norman of Lincoln and Lane (Jeremiah) Callaghan of Central City; his great grandchildren, Andrew Bryant, Addysen Bryant, Jakson and Jase Callaghan and Kaiden and Lexie Norman; two brothers, Paul and Edgar Schwenk; a sister, Cora Ann Wood; his brother in law, Garland Wood; three sister in laws, Barb Schwenk, Alene O’Brien and Liz Schwenk; and a number of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday, May 4, 2015 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Gerica N. Crawford

Gerica “Juicy” N. Crawford, age 27 of North Platte, passed away April 25, 2015 at her home.
Gerica was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Milwaukee. She moved to North Platte in 2009. She was always smiling and loved wearing bright colors. She was artistic, loving to sing and draw. She was a beautiful person both inside and out.
Gerica is survived by her daughters Maria and Lovely; grandmother Theresa Campbell of Lincoln; sisters Nika Campbell of Chicago, and Brittney Campbell of Milwaukee; brother Tristan Campbell of North Platte; husband Jim Shae of North Platte; and aunts LaTonya (Phillip) Tyan of North Platte, Angela (Terry) Johnson of North Platte and LaShonda (Jonathon) Childress of Lincoln; as well as other extended family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Deonte Campbell; and grandfather Grover Campbell.

Alois Joseph Rinke Jr.

Alois Joseph Rinke Jr., age 85 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the Sutherland Care Center.
Alois was born on July 2, 1929 in Hartman, AK to Alois J. and Burris (Lancaster) Rinke and was then raised by his grandparents Elizabeth and Christopher Rinke. Al was raised on a farm in Hartman and attended school through the 8th grade. He joined the Army in 1951 and served in Panama during the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge in 1952 he moved to Grand Island, NE where he worked at Russell Stover Candies. It was there he met the love of his life, Dorothy Lu Brown. They were united in marriage on July 18, 1953 at St. Mary’s Cathedral and to this union four children were born. In 1954 Al and Dorothy moved to Gothenburg where he became a diesel mechanic. In 1960 they moved to North Platte where he went to work for Bryan & Prowett Truck Company. In 1969 he was hired by the Union Pacific Railroad as a diesel mechanic at which he worked until his retirement in 1992. In 2002 Al moved to Paxton where he lived until January 2011 when he became a resident at Sutherland Care Center. He enjoyed family, fishing, bowling and crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; American Legion; Voiture 1068 40 & 8 Club; Eagles and Moose Lodges.
Al is survived by his children Robert (Connie) Rinke of Salina, KS, James (Sheri) Rinke of North Platte, Mary (Jerry) Long of Lincoln, Debra (Mike Smithberg) Florom of Keystone, NE; nine grandchildren Jeremy (Misty) Rinke, Joshua (Trisha) Rinke, Michelle (Brett) Cooper, Sara (Tom) Shively, Alan Long, Brent( Shara Lee) Rinke, Harley Rinke, Jason (Nikkie) Florom, Kris (Cortney) Florom; 19 great grandchildren; 4 half sisters Loretta Zimple, Rosella Boerner, Marilyn (Jamie) Blackwood and Anita (Calvin) Price all of Arkansas; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews; and special friends Wesley and Lena Klemke of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1990; parents; step-mother Agnes; half-sister Mildred Marts; and half-brother Leon Rinke.

Gary Duane Kilgore, 54 years, of North Platte, NE, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Good Life Center in Callaway, NE.

Gary was born May 23, 1960, to Gary Fay and Sylvia Carol Field Kilgore at David City, NE and grew up in Rising City, NE. While in high school Gary Duane “Scooby Doo” belonged to the Radio Emergency Associated Communication Teams (R.E.A.C.T. Club). After graduating from Rising City High School in 1979 Gary hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad with the Maintenance of Way Department. He worked on jobs in Colorado, California, Kansas and wherever else the railroad sent him for 35 years. Gary liked what he did and loved his cars.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Kilgore, of Columbus, NE; father and stepmother, Gary and Floy Kilgore, of Omaha, NE; his son, Adam Falkingham, of Belgrade, MT; two sisters, Denise (Robert) Wendl, of Parker, CO, and Vicky Kilgore, of Battle Creek, NE; two nieces, Cassandra (Gavin) Coffin and Mikayla Woodard; and other family.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Committal service and inurnment will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Circle Mound Cemetery 1/2 mile north of Rising City with Ron Lau officiating.

dean-fearNeal Dean Fear, age 68 of Sutherland passed away at his home on April 23, 2015.

Dean was born on January 21, 1947 in North Platte, NE to Neal Earl and Lola Elaine (Knoles) Fear.  He completed K-8 south of Sutherland at Plainview Country School  The family then moved to a farm north of Sutherland in 1960 where he finished his education at Sutherland Public Schools, graduating in 1965.  After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Reserves.  In 1969, he began his farming and ranching career with his brother Clarence Fear north of Sutherland.  While farming, he worked construction at the Gerald Gentleman Station, traveled on a harvest crew to Texas, worked for Hi-Line Coop, and did custom work for area farmers.  He was a strong supporter of 4-H, FFA, and livestock judging.  He followed his nieces and nephews during their school events and livestock projects and he was very proud of his family’s accomplishments.  Dean was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling stories of his many adventures which included trips to the Lucky 13, for goose hunting, bear hunting in Minnesota, fishing in Canada, deer hunting around Sutherland, elk and moose hunting in Wyoming, with his many friends and family.  He was very knowledgeable about firearms, and spent many hours shooting and reloading ammunition and reading various hunting books and magazines.  He obtained his pilot’s license through Trego Aviation and really enjoyed spending time flying.

Dean is survived by his family, Tim (Billie), Tyler and Bailee Fear, Marlo (Martin), Morgan Simpson, Mason and Mataya Roberts; Candace (Andy), April, Karlie and Blake Scott all of Sutherland; Marty Fear of St. Francis, KS; Jason Speck, Johna (Matt) Taylor, Jordan, and Tristen Jablonski all of Imperial.

He was preceded in death by his parents Neal and Lola Fear; sister Eunice Speck; and brother Clarence Fear.
