SWIMMING: Bulldogs Compete at Twin Cities Invite

North Platte’s boys and girls swim teams participated in the Twin Cities Invite in Scottsbluff this weekend. Both teams finished in third out of four teams.

BASKETBALL: Dawgs Host Islanders (LISTEN LIVE on ESPN Radio 1410)

The North Platte Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are on their home floor tonight taking on Grand Island. The girls game features two teams that are trying to get rolling in the second halves of their seasons. In the boys game, the Bulldogs are trying to snap a two-game skid and win their first game of 2013. The girls game gets underway at 5:45, with the boys game to follow at 7:30. ESPN Radio 1410 has all the action from the Dawghouse, with pregame coverage getting underway at 5:30.

SWIMMING: Bulldogs Compete at GI Double Dual

The North Platte boys and girls swim teams took part in a double dual in Grand Island Wednesday, taking on the host Islanders and McCook. The boys defeated the Bison 61-28 and lost to Grand Island 60-34. The girls fell to McCook 50-37 and also lost to GI 69-23. North Platte’s boys had overall winning times in two events. Zac Burns was tops in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.03. The 400 freestyle relay team of Zach Saner, Caleb Cox, Erik Davis, and Matthew Walsh had the top time in that event at 4:53.02.

Bulldog Basketball, Wrestling In Action Tonight (LISTEN LIVE to Bulldog Hoops on ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight marks the final day of prep sports competition before Christmas, and North Platte’s boys and girls basketball teams are making a trek to the capital city. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs hope to go into the holiday on the strength of back-to-back wins as they take on Lincoln East. The girls game tips off first at 5:15, with the boys to follow at 7 PM. ESPN Radio 1410 will have all the action, starting with pregame coverage at 5 PM. North Platte wrestling also competes tonight. They welcome Grand Island to the Dawghouse for what should be an electrifying dual between two of the top teams in Class A.

It’s a busy night on the prep hardwood. North Platte visits McCook in what could be the last regular season meeting between the two schools. The girls game tips off at 6 PM, followed by the boys game at 7:45. ESPN Radio 1410 has the games live, with pregame coverage at 5:45. The other Lincoln County schools are also playing tonight. St. Pat’s visits Valentine, Maxwell treks to Paxton, Brady hosts Hitchcock County, Hershey welcomes Kimball, Sutherland travels to Hayes Center. Also tonight in girls and boys basketball doubleheader action, Gothenburg plays host to Holdrege, Eustis-Farnam is at Maywood, Perkins County visits Sidney, Cozad treks to Central City, Chase County hosts Garden County, Med Valley hosts South Loup, Mullen welcomes Cody-Kilgore, and SMC is home to Twin Loup.

BASKETBALL: Bulldogs, Irish Make Season Debuts (LISTEN LIVE TONIGHT to the Lady Bulldogs on ESPN Radio 1410)

The North Platte Bulldog boys and girls basketball teams get their seasons underway tonight. The Bulldog boys return four starters in Matt Kaminski’s second year on the sidelines. They face Lincoln High at the Doghouse tonight, with the tipoff scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Bulldogs bring back two starters for head coach Mark Woodhead. They make the trip to the capital city to face Lincoln High’s Lady Links. ESPN Radio 1410 will have the broadcast of the girls game, with pregame coverage at 7:30 and the tipoff at 7:45. Also tonight, the St. Pat’s Irish and Lady Irish, both ranked in the preseason Class C2 polls, open their campaigns hosting Broken Bow. In other boys and girls hoops doubleheaders, Hershey travels to Gothenburg, Maxwell hosts SMC, Wallace is at Maywood, and Brady visits Wauneta-Palisade.

CROSS COUNTRY: North Platte’s McGuire, Paxton’s Perlinger Earn All-State Honors

North Platte High School junior Wyatt McGuire was named a Class A All-State and all-class Super State runner by the Nebraska Coaches Association. McGuire took first place at the A3 district cross country meet and then placed third at the state meet. He has been a state medalist for three straight years. Paxton senior Garrett Perlinger was named a Class D All-State runner. He placed seventh at the state meet.

VOLLEYBALL: Bulldogs Fall in District Final; Class D District Finals Tonight

The North Platte Lady Bulldogs lost in the finals of the A6 district volleyball tournament, falling in four sets to Lincoln Pius X 17-25, 21-25, 31-29, 20-25. Their season ends with a 19-12 record. Three Lincoln County teams play for the right to go to state tonight. In the D1-6 district final, Sutherland battles Potter-Dix at Creek Valley High School in Chappell. In the D2-5 district final at North Platte’s McGahan Activities Center, Brady faces Wallace. Both games are scheduled for 7 PM starts.
