NPCC Lady Knights basketball upset McCook

The Lady Knights held McCook 20 points below their season average in sending the Lady Indians just their second loss.

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team upset the McCook Community College Lady Indians 67-64 on Wednesday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The Lady Knights started the game with a 3-pointer by Sarah Mahr to take the 3-0 lead. The first quarter was tight and went back and forth. Chante Church had nine of the Lady Indians 15 first quarter points. The Lady Indians led by as much as five points and finished the first quarter leading 15-12. Huskers Hold off No. 11 Michigan State, 72-71

East Lansing, Mich. –Shavon Shields matched his season high with 28 points, including 19 in the second half, as Nebraska picked up its fourth straight win, a 72-71 win over No. 11 Michigan State at the Breslin Center Wednesday evening.

Shields was spectacular, hitting 12-of-20 shots from the field to lead three Huskers in double figures. Shields, who missed the final 4:24 minutes of the first half after landing on his back, hit 8 of 13 shots after returning to action, as three Huskers finished in double figures. Huskers Win With Defense at Purdue

West Lafayette, Ind. – Nebraska made a huge defensive stand in the final 13 seconds, holding Purdue without a clean shot attempt to escape from Mackey Arena with a 62-61 women’s basketball win on Wednesday night.

The Huskers, who improved to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the Big Ten, notched their fourth consecutive victory while handing first-place Purdue its second straight loss. The Boilermakers slipped to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Continue reading “Huskers Win With Defense at Purdue”

NPCC Volleyball Signs Camacho

The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has announced the signing of Aly Camacho of Scottsbluff, Neb.

Camacho, a 6’ 0” middle blocker, played for coach Kenna Urwiller and the Scottsbluff High School Lady Bearcats. Camacho was a three-sport athlete in high school and started three years in volleyball.

Urwiller said, “I watched Aly develop as a volleyball player. She started playing volleyball in the eighth grade. She is one of the most competitive people I know.” Continue reading “NPCC Volleyball Signs Camacho”

Shepard, Romeo Earn Big Ten Honors

Jessica Shepard captured her seventh Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award of the season, while sophomore Natalie Romeo claimed her second spot on the Big Ten Player-of-the-Week Honor Roll this seen when the conference office announced its weekly awards on Monday.

NPCC Knights and Lady Knights to Face McCook

The North Platte Community College Knights men’s and women’s basketball teams will face the McCook Community College Indians on Wednesday, January 20. The women’s game will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by the men’s game at approximately 7:30 pm.

Huskers Knock Off Illinois, 78-67

Champaign – Nebraska continued its winning ways, shooting 53.6 percent in posting a 78-67 win over Illinois Saturday afternoon.

The Huskers (11-8, 3-3 Big Ten) put four players in double figures, led by Andrew White III’s 21 points and 13 rebounds, as the Nebraska picked up its first win in Champaign since 1921.

White scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half, as the Huskers withstood a flurry of 3-pointers by Illinois (9-9, 1-4 Big Ten). Continue reading “Huskers Knock Off Illinois, 78-67”

Huskers Overcome Scarlet Knights

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard, Natalie Romeo and Rachel Theriot produced big nights, helping Nebraska outscore Rutgers 24-11 in the fourth quarter on the way to a 65-54 women’s basketball win on Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shepard, a 6-4 freshman forward from Fremont, Neb., put up a game-high 22 points while adding eight rebounds to help the Huskers complete a 2-0 week to improve to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten. Patriots to 5th straight AFC title game, beat Chiefs 27-20

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady hit Rob Gronkowski with two touchdown passes and reached over the goal line for another score Saturday to lead the New England Patriots into the AFC championship game with a 27-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

NPCC Defeats Trinidad State in Overtime

The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team played their second overtime game in two days. This time the Knights came out on the winning end by defeating the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans 89-82 on “Boy Scout” night.

The Knights started the game with two field goals by Victor Lewis to give the Knights a 4-0 lead. The Trojans fought their way back to take the lead 9-7 with 15 minutes left in the first half.
