Hosmer sacrifice fly in 14th lifts Royals to WS Game 1 win

kc-royalsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Gordon hit a tying home run with one out in the ninth inning, Eric Hosmer hit a sacrifice fly against Bartolo Colon in the 14th and the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets 5-4 Tuesday night in the longest opener in World Series history.

Huskers Continue Prep for Purdue

Lincoln – The Husker football team continued preparations for Saturday’s game at Purdue with a two-hour practice in the Hawks Championship Center and the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Fields Tuesday afternoon.

AP Source: Volquez loses father before World Series start

Huskers Ranked 10th in Preseason Coaches Poll

The Nebraska wrestling team earned the No. 10 ranking in the first USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll for this season, released on Tuesday.

The Huskers return All-American TJ Dudley (184) and six additional NCAA qualifiers from last season. Senior Jake Sueflohn (149), who missed last season with an injury, is a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier. Continue reading “Huskers Ranked 10th in Preseason Coaches Poll”

MPCC Rodeo Team members lead regional standings

Winning two championships isn’t a bad way to wrap up the fall rodeo season. That’s just how the Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team finished over the weekend during the 50th annual North Dakota State University Bison Stampede in Fargo, N.D.

The rodeo was Friday and Saturday. Members ended up third as a team and took the top three places in bull riding.

NU Defense Works to Stop Running Game against Purdue

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska football team practiced in sweats for 90 minutes inside the Hawks Center on Monday afternoon.

Defensive coordinator Mark Banker spoke to the media after practice discussing the injures that continue to cause problems for his Husker defense, specifically the shortage at the cornerback position.

“If Chris Jones can’t go, that’s a good question…we’ll probably have to take a [red] shirt off of somebody,” Banker said. “Right now Boaz [Joseph] is banged up too. We’d have to go with one of the (true freshmen) redshirts Eric Lee [Jr.] or Avery Anderson. Chiefs turn back Steelers 23-13 to snap 5-game losing streak

Kansas City Chiefs LogoKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Smith threw for 251 yards and a touchdown, Cairo Santos kicked three field goals and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the injury-filled Pittsburgh Steelers 23-13 on Sunday to snap a five-game losing streak.

Huskers Nipped by Cats

Lincoln – In a another game that went down to the wire, Nebraska watched a two-point conversion attempt bound incomplete with 4:23 left, allowing Northwestern to escape from Memorial Stadium with a 30-28 win on Saturday.

With Nebraska’s fifth loss of the season by five or fewer points, the Huskers slipped to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten, while Northwestern improved to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Nebraska’s five losses have come by a total of 13 points. Continue reading “Huskers Nipped by Cats”
