Nebraska’s Riley: Pierson-El could play some against Illini

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — De’Mornay Pierson-El might be able to play in a limited role when Nebraska opens Big Ten play at Illinois on Saturday.

Pierson-El has been out since mid-August with a broken right foot. Coach Mike Riley said the dynamic punt returner and receiver is returning to practice this week. Armstrong Named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Armstrong shared the award with Indiana running back Jordan Howard.

The weekly honor was the first of Armstrong’s career. A Husker was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, as junior I-back Terrell Newby shared the honor on Sept. 14. Continue reading “Armstrong Named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week”

Marino named Defenseman of the Week

Kearney, Ne. – Storm defenseman John Marino has been named CCM “Defenseman of the Week” for week one of the regular season, the USHL announced Monday.

Marino netted three assists Friday in the season opener, a 5-1 win against the Omaha Lancers, and is tied with Bloomington’s Jeremy Davies for the most points by a defenseman in the league. Peyton Manning throws 2 TDs to help Broncos beat Lions 24-12

DenverBroncosDETROIT (AP) — Peyton Manning converted a fourth down with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas with 5 seconds left in the first half, and threw an 11-yard TD pass to Owen Daniels with 2:28 remaining, lifting the Denver Broncos to a 24-12 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

AUDIO: NPCC Lady Knights Lose Two to Ranked Teams on Day Two of Johnson County Invite

josie palmerThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights Volleyball team were defeated twice on day two of the Johnson County Invitational.  They lost to the Kirkwood Lady Eagles in the first match of the day 25-17, 25-23, 25-19, followed by a loss to the Parkland College Lady Cobras 25-15, 25-15, and 25-12.

Lincoln, Neb. – Tommy Armstrong Jr., Drew Brown, Andy Janovich, Brandon Reilly and Jordan Westerkamp all produced career days to lead Nebraska to a 36-28 victory over visiting Southern Miss on Homecoming at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Brown, a sophomore place-kicker from Texas, tied the NCAA record by kicking five field goals in the first half to help the Huskers to a 22-0 halftime lead. Continue reading “Huskers Hold on for 36-28 Win”

Huskers Sweep Iowa, Move to 2-0 in B1G

Lincoln – The No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team picked up its second sweep of Iowa this week with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-18 victory before a season-high crowd of 8,427 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night, the Huskers’ second annual “White Out” match.

The Huskers (11-1, 2-0 Big Ten) relied on their middles early and often, as Amber Rolfzen led the way with a season-high 11 kills – on a season-best .556 hitting percentage – and six blocks, while Cecilia Hall added eight kills and two blocks.
