Huskers Prepare to Handle Hawkeyes

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska football team practiced in half pads for 90 minutes on Monday in the Hawks Championship Center and Outdoor Practice Facility, preparing for a Black Friday matchup against the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes in Lincoln. NU looks to hand Iowa its first loss of the season and earn bowl eligibility.

Huskers Look for Third Straight Win

The Nebraska basketball team wraps up the Lincoln portion of the Barclays Center Classic Tuesday night, as the Huskers (3-1) host Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-3) at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised online on BTN Plus and carried on the IMG Husker Sports Radio Network. A limited number of returned tickets for Sunday’s game are available by visiting Huskers.com or at the Pinnacle Bank Arena box office beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Huskers’ Riley: Rape investigation continues, no suspensions

lincoln-policeLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Mike Riley says preparation for Friday’s game against third-ranked Iowa is “business as usual” while police and the university investigate a report of a sexual assault at a house shared by players.

Riley said Monday that quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr., receiver Jordan Westerkamp and tight end Trey Foster would practice as usual this week. Huskers Host No. 3 Ranked Hawkeyes

Nebraska completes the 2015 regular season with its traditional Black Friday game with Iowa. The border rivals will square off in the HyVee Heroes Game with the contest televised nationally on ABC. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.

Nebraska enters the game with a 5-6 record and a 3-4 mark in Big Ten play, following a 31-14 victory at Rutgers on Nov. 14. NU comes into the matchup following a weekend off after playing 11 straight weeks to open the season. A win over Iowa would even the Huskers’ record at 6-6 and secure a bowl bid for Nebraska. Shepard Earns Big Ten Honors

Lincoln – Nebraska freshman Jessica Shepard continued her early season hardware haul on Monday when she was named College Sports Madness Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while adding her second straight Big Ten Conference Freshman-of-the-Week award.

Shepard, a 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb., produced a pair of 20-point performances last week, while adding a pair of double-doubles in two Nebraska victories. Continue reading “Shepard Earns Big Ten Honors”

Hunter Named B1G Co-Setter of the Week

Nebraska sophomore setter Kelly Hunter was named the Big Ten Co-Setter of the Week on Monday by the conference office.

The honor is the second weekly award of the season for the Papillion, Neb., native. She was also the Big Ten Setter of the Week after opening weekend.

Freshmen lead Huskers Past Lions

Lincoln – Freshmen Glynn Watson Jr., Ed Morrow Jr. and Michael Jacobson recorded career highs in points while five Huskers scored in double figures as Nebraska defeated Southeastern Louisiana 92-65 Sunday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Cornhuskers were led by Watson who netted 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Morrow and Jacobsen both chipped in 11 points, while Tai Webster scored 13 points and Benny Parker tallied 10 markers. Continue reading “Freshmen lead Huskers Past Lions”

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard continued her record-setting collegiate start with her third straight 20-point, 10-rebound performance to lead a strong Nebraska post game in an 88-47 women’s basketball victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shepard, who became the first Husker in history to score 20 or more points in the first three games of her career, finished with game highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while adding a pair of assists in 24 minutes to the delight of the 4,984 fans in attendance at the arena on Saturday. Huskers Withstand Hornets, 75-60

Behind a game-high 21 points from Shavon Shields and 20 from Andrew White III, Nebraska improved to 2-1 on the season with a 75-60 win over Delaware State Thursday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers (2-1) built a 25-point second-half lead, only to see the Hornets feverishly cut the deficit to four at 63-59 with 5:09 remaining after a basket from Jason Owens. Shields then ended the nearly seven minute dryspell with a basket before White’s 3-pointer from the wing pushed the lead back to nine, at 68-59, with 4:16 remaining. Huskers Sweep Indiana, Win Seventh Straight

LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team swept Indiana, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19, to win its seventh straight match on Wednesday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Huskers improved to 23-4 overall and 14-3 in the Big Ten, putting them alone in second place after Penn State’s loss at home to Michigan on Wednesday night.
