Armstrong Named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Armstrong shared the award with Indiana running back Jordan Howard.

Huskers Hold on for 36-28 Win

Lincoln, Neb. – Tommy Armstrong Jr., Drew Brown, Andy Janovich, Brandon Reilly and Jordan Westerkamp all produced career days to lead Nebraska to a 36-28 victory over visiting Southern Miss on Homecoming at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Brown, a sophomore place-kicker from Texas, tied the NCAA record by kicking five field goals in the first half to help the Huskers to a 22-0 halftime lead. Continue reading “Huskers Hold on for 36-28 Win”

Huskers Sweep Iowa, Move to 2-0 in B1G

Lincoln – The No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team picked up its second sweep of Iowa this week with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-18 victory before a season-high crowd of 8,427 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night, the Huskers’ second annual “White Out” match.

The Huskers (11-1, 2-0 Big Ten) relied on their middles early and often, as Amber Rolfzen led the way with a season-high 11 kills – on a season-best .556 hitting percentage – and six blocks, while Cecilia Hall added eight kills and two blocks. Huskers Sweep Iowa to Open Big Ten Play

Iowa City, Iowa – The fourth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team began Big Ten play with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-23 sweep at Iowa on Wednesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Huskers improved to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten with their seventh straight win. Kadie Rolfzen led NU with 14 kills and 10 digs. She had a .387 hitting percentage. Amber Rolfzen added 10 kills, while Mikaela Foecke had seven kills. McGuire Earns Big Ten Athlete of the Week

Wyatt McGuire was named the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

McGuire is the second Husker to earn the weekly award from the conference this season. Peter Spinks captured the honor on Sept. 9.

A redshirt freshman from North Platte, Neb., McGuire led the Huskers to the team title at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational by finishing fourth overall with a time of 25:35.5 in the 8K race. Continue reading “McGuire Earns Big Ten Athlete of the Week”

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team completed another practice in preparation for its Saturday game against Southern Mississippi on Tuesday. The Huskers were split into two groups—offense and defense during practice, as thunderstorms forced the offense inside Cook Pavilion, while the defense practiced inside the Hawks Championship Center. NU Defense Prepares for Talented Southern Miss

The Nebraska football team practiced in helmets for just over 90 minutes on Monday afternoon. The offense practiced outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice field, while the defense worked inside of the Hawks Center.

Kadie Rolfzen, Foecke Pick Up B1G Weekly Honors

Kadie Rolfzen was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Mikaela Foecke was named Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Rolfzen, a two-time AVCA All-American, earned the first defensive award of her career after notching 3.14 digs and 1.57 blocks per set last week in wins at Creighton and at Iowa State.
