AP Source: Royals, OF Alex Gordon agree to 4-year contract

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A person familiar with the deal says All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon has agreed to a four-year contract to remain with the World Series champion Kansas City Royals.

Royals acquire catcher Cruz from Cardinals for minor leaguer

kc-royalsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have acquired backup catcher Tony Cruz from the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league infielder Jose Martinez while designating catcher Francisco Pena for assignment.

The teams announced the trade Wednesday.

Three Royals snag Gold Gloves

kc-royalsNEW YORK (AP) — Catcher and World Series MVP Salvador Perez, first baseman Eric Hosmer and shortstop Alcides Escobar top the American League’s gold glove winners. Other AL Gold Glove winners are Houston pitcher Dallas Keuchel, Houston second baseman Jose Altuve, Baltimore third baseman Manny Macado, Detroit outfielder Yoenis Cespedes (who was traded in late July to the NL Mets), Tampa Bay outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and the L.A. NEW YORK (AP) — Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper is one of three finalists for the NL MVP award who played for teams that had disappointing seasons.

Harper is joined by Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt and Cincinnati’s Joey Votto, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced Tuesday.

Royals win World Series, rally late, then rout Mets in 12th

kc-royalsNEW YORK (AP) — The Kansas City Royals won their first World Series crown since 1985, rallying in the ninth inning when Eric Hosmer scrambled home to tie it and then breaking away in the 12th to beat the New York Mets 7-2 in Game 5 Sunday night.

Royals rally on Murphy’s error, beat Mets, lead Series 3-1

kc-royalsNEW YORK (AP) — The Kansas City Royals rallied for three runs in the eighth inning after second baseman Daniel Murphy’s error and startled the New York Mets 5-3 Saturday night for a 3-1 lead in the World Series.

Wright, Granderson HR, Mets beat Royals, trail 2-1 in Series

kc-royalsNEW YORK (AP) — David Wright and Curtis Granderson homered, rookie Noah Syndergaard pitched six effective innings and the New York Mets roughed up the Kansas City Royals 9-3 Friday night, cutting their World Series deficit to 2-1.

Cueto’s 2-hitter sends Royals over Mets for 2-0 Series lead

kc-royalsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Johnny Cueto pitched a two-hitter, Eric Hosmer drove in two more runs and the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets 7-1 Wednesday night to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series.

Hosmer sacrifice fly in 14th lifts Royals to WS Game 1 win

kc-royalsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Gordon hit a tying home run with one out in the ninth inning, Eric Hosmer hit a sacrifice fly against Bartolo Colon in the 14th and the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets 5-4 Tuesday night in the longest opener in World Series history.
