Big Ten officials say mistake cost Illinois a down

Big-Ten-LogoROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — The Big Ten officials’ organization says a third-quarter officiating mistake cost Illinois a down in its 14-13 win Saturday over Nebraska.

Collegiate Officiating Consortium Coordinator of Officials Bill Carollo said Monday that replay officials should have given Illinois another down when they reviewed a situation in which field officials lost track of the down and distance. Kielly named USHL Goaltender of the Week

Kearney, Ne. – Storm goalie Jake Kielly has been named CCM “Goaltender of the Week” for week two of the regular season, the USHL announcedMonday.

Storm acquire draft pick from Bucs for Gobetz

Kearney, Ne. – The Tri-City Storm have acquired a fifth-round, Phase I draft pick in the 2016 USHL Entry Draft from the Des Moines Buccaneers in exchange for defenseman James Gobetz, Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt announced Sunday.

Denver’s defense leads Broncos past Vikings 23-20

DenverBroncosDENVER (AP) — Brandon McManus kicked a 39-yard field goal with 1:51 left and Denver had seven sacks in the Broncos’ 23-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Cueto, Royals secure home-field with 6-1 win over Twins

kc-royalsMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Salvador Perez added to his career-best home run total, Johnny Cueto tossed five solid innings and the Kansas City Royals secured home-field advantage throughout the postseason by beating the Minnesota Twins 6-1 on Sunday.

Huskers Fall in Final Seconds at Illinois

Champaign, Ill. – For the fourth time in five contests to open the season, the outcome of Nebraska’s football game was not decided until the opponent’s final offensive play.

For the third time, the Huskers walked away on the short end of the scoreboard with a 14-13 loss at Champaign’s Memorial Stadium in the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams.
