Charity Basketball Tournament to Benefit Village Well Fund

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Softball team will host a charity basketball 3 – on -3 tournament to put in a well in the village of Majimoto in Tanzania, where Samson Charles was from.

Charles drowned while kayaking down the North Platte River on July 11.

Charles was to play basketball for the NPCC Knights this upcoming season.

The tournament will be played at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11 on the south campus of NPCC.

Each team will consist of six players. No more than two college basketball players can be on a team.

The games will be two 10-minute running clock halves. Two games will be going on at one time. After the third foul, the other team will get a point.

Registration for each team will be $30, if registered by Friday Sep 9. At the tournament, the price will be $40.

Admission to the tournament for spectators will be $5. A donation of flat basketballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, footballs, or air pump. The sporting equipment will be sent to the village for the children. There will also be a donation jar available at the gate.

The 2016 Mid-Plains Community College Stampede will pit some of the toughest cowboys and cowgirls in the region against the rankest livestock on the circuit.

The public is invited to watch the action Sept. 16-17 at the Wild West Arena, 2400 N. Buffalo Bill Ave, in North Platte. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. each night.
