creightonOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Creighton men’s basketball team tied for ninth in the Big East last season, and that’s where the Bluejays are picked to finish again.

ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Hawks guard Kyle Korver is expected to be ready for the start of training camp following surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow.

The Hawks say Tuesday’s surgery was performed in New York by Dr. David Altchek.

It is the third surgery since March for the 34-year-old Korver, the team’s starting shooting guard and 3-point specialist. He had surgery for a broken nose three months ago, and earlier this month surgeons repaired ligament damage in his right ankle.

He was still wearing a walking boot when he helped the team introduce its new uniforms last week.

The Hawks also officially announced two new titles reported last week: Coach Mike Budenholzer was named president of basketball operations and Wes Wilcox was promoted to general manager.

Creighton’s Rasmussen now 3-time winner of AD of Year Award

creightonOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Creighton athletic director Bruce Rasmussen is among the winners of the Under Armour AD of the Year Award.

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced Tuesday that Rasmussen is one of 28 honorees over seven collegiate divisions.

Winners will receive their awards during a luncheon June 17 at NACDA’s 50th annual convention in Orlando, Florida.

NACDA executive director Bob Vecchione said the award highlights the efforts of athletic directors for their commitments and positive contributions to athletes, campuses and their surrounding communities.

Rasmussen also won the award in 2004 and 2011. In his 21 years as Creighton’s AD, he has seen Bluejays teams pick up 32 regular-season conference titles, 37 conference tournament titles and make 72 postseason appearances. He also serves on the NCAA men’s basketball selection committee.

Creighton lands K-State Transfer Marcus Foster

Marcus Foster Creighton BluejaysOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marcus Foster, who led Kansas State in scoring before his dismissal from the team, is transferring to Creighton.

The Bluejays said Thursday that Foster will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Kansas State dismissed Foster last month, saying he had not lived up to standards the school sets for its players. After a sterling freshmen season, Foster’s play deteriorated last season. He was suspended for three games and removed from the starting lineup at times.

In 29 games last season, the 6-foot-3 guard from Wichita Falls, Texas, averaged 12.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Creighton went 14-19 last season.

Bluejays coach Greg McDermott announced Gilmore’s decision on Wednesday.

Gilmore was the only true freshman to see playing time for the Bluejays this past season. The native of Manvel, Texas, appeared in eight games and averaged 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in just under 5 minutes a game.

McDermott said he’s sorry to see Gilmore leave the program and that he wishes him the best.
